    New tikka 7mm rem mag.

Just started breaking in the barrel of my 7mm rem mag using federal blue 150grn, shown is the first group ( shots 9,10,11 ) the first shot of the group is out of a thoroughly cleaned, cold bore. Real pleased that the first shot is centre of the next rounds. Scope is a Leupold mk4 4.5-14x50 - Courtesey of KIWI JAMES, on a egw rail, leupold pwr rings fired of the bonnet of my vitara using a bag of grass seed and a harris bipod. Shit I love these Tikkas.

    They are good alright VTF,

They often like the "go to" accuracy load for the Rem Mag/A-Max combo which is..

    162 A-Max
    72g of ADI 2217 powder
    Federal 215 primer
A Cartridge over all length of 3.345 inches to fit the magazine.

This combo gives 3030 - 3050 fps in long throated rifles like Tikkas and Sakos, and stunning accuracy.

As at last week Beretta was out of Tikkas in 7mm rem mag and Gun ity had sold out, Dave Craft at 'Craftys Rods N Guns' in Hastings has what could be the last one in NZ at the moment ($1200).

Id say, if you can only have one rifle/caliber combination (for deer) to chose from then make it a T3 or Finnlight in 7mm Rem Mag. Load it down for softer recoil or tune it up for LR.

PS. Im a little reticent to add a disclaimer here for Blaser owners in their blazers.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

    Envious. Much.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Cheers for the load data, I have some 2217 left over from a 338 lapua, just have to order some dies and projectiles.

I have the same combo except put a waitaki engineering brake on it and optilock rings.
I am using 72.5 gns of 2217 and its doing 2980 fps but there is signs of pressure with flat primers and ejector marks on the brass.
Will back it off with the next reloading but cant get the velocity up over 3000 fps which is what i would like to have got out of it.
I will use 2225 next time i get powder to find out if it suits better.
Save our Tahr. They belong in the southern alps.

Yeah , Iv heard 2225 is the go to powder for the 7mm rem mag or even better IMR7878. Will go with the 2217 and see how it goes.

First Blood , red shot last night after milking. Only saw part of her throat and lower jaw after spooking her , bullet went straight through the throat at 210m - stoked.

Brilliant VTF. Looks like the rifle and the load work well for you.
