145 eldx

Has anyone got any real world experience with the 145 eldx particularly under 200 yards.
I’ve just acquired a 19inch 270win and was wanting to work up an all round load capable out to 450 yards.
I’ve been running the 150eldx in my 284win for a while and have had a few varied results under 200 yards, I haven’t lost an animal but a few have required a second shot that I thought shouldn’t of been necessary.
So a bit unsure whether to try the eldx again or go with something else.
Anything at distance the eldx has been very impressive.

No problems with them under 200 yards, double lung your animal and it stops breathing

Those are the ones that have needed a second shot.
How would you rate the 140 nosler bt compared to the eldx

The 140 BT kills quicker up close, the 145 slightly better around the 800 yard mark

I run 145 ELD-X in my 270WSM. I’ve not had to put a second shot in anything yet, but have had a few run 10-20m before dropping at a mixture of ranges. I’m happy with their killing power and will keep running them

I don’t like them at all. Real lack of penetration up close, they can fly to bits if you hit something hard. I’ve used them in a 18 inch 270wsm. They are fine at distance, or for a double lung shot in the bush. I use a 140 grain Sierra tgk now and really rate them, great penetration and really accurate. The BC is not as good (.420 g1) but still ok and most importantly they produce the goods.

Shot close to 200 with them, probably close a quarter of that sub 200m they're very effective and the first pill I reccomend to any 270 user provided they shoot well in your rifle. Sometimes can be a bit messy up close and they are prone to core jacket separation, but the way I see it, all energy is dumped within the animal. Highly reccomended.

The 145 eldx is the one iv seen the most consistent results from id use it in a heart beat

I load them for a couple of guys in their standard .270 no complaints.

I load 143gn ELDX for one of My 6.5CM's. Just this roar i had a stag come to me in a situation where all I could see was his head looking straight at me from around 30 Metres, I don't make a habit of taking head shots but this was the only option apart from don't shoot. It never occurred to me that the bullet would not go through to the brain but that is exactly what happened. the stag bolted downhill and out of sight. It took an hour to catch up to him and finish him off, I'm not proud of that but at least he wasn't left to suffer any longer.
So not sure about the ELDX at shorter ranges when it hits something tough. Certainly it works well at longer ranges but for close work I think I will go be loading up some Sierra TGK's.

Head shot results are rarely an indicator of projectile performance due to all the variables

Side on - a Red deers head is quite a large profile and likely shows the biggest kill zone, aim 20 mm behind the eye

The shot I've mentioned was front on, right on the nose. So it had a fair way to go to get to the brain.

I shot a jap stag staring straight at me like that years ago from ten metres with the 303

Projectile went in between its clenched teeth and never exited the head

It immediately went stiff and fell over sideways with its legs outstretched like it was made of concrete

They are a good bullet, a lot of damage on the closer shots but still work well
