Which 150/155 gn 30 cal projectile

    Gidday Guys

I need to restock on a projectile I only use a few of for reloading a friend's 308 and my single shot 30-30. Both are launched as fairly modest velocities as the 308 load is a reduced recoil deal - about 2450 MV. In the past I've used corelokt 150s in the 308 but I'd like bullet with better BC for the 30-30.

I've looked at Sierra 155 TMKs and Hornardy ELDMs - any experience out there with these on game?

    Other thoughts?

    Consider Hotcores or Interloks

Speer 150 grain btsp designed for impact speeds that you are looking at I.e. 30-30, 300 savage etc at intermediate range. And they are are Speer, so have good quality and consistency.
I'm trying to get to heaven before they shut the door.

How much are you expecting to gain over a Corelokt in the 3030?

    Sierra 150g Gamekings

Suitable for both velocity windows and great harvesters of deer

Nice BC as well as they were originally made for 600yrd comp shooting

My rifle in .308 prefers 165Gr NBT over the 150Gr version (Nosler Ballistic Tip)

Sell the LA 30.30. Buy a BA, then you can do something realistic.

It's a 1:8 twist Thompson Centre Contender (single shot, light, accurate, poor man's kipplauf) so @Oldbloke your advice is declined as "shite".

I got the 150 BTSP Speers as advised by @nor-west

I'm so out of touch with what's available now days, I stumbled upon the 155 Scenar some years ago now and haven't needed to look any further.

155 TMK's and ELD's both work well on game out to distance in my experience. you should be fine running either lite

    Greetings @Tentman,
At the velocities and likely shorter ranges for your use it is unlikely that an increased BC will have any significant or measurable effect. Reliable expansion is another matter, A few years back a research article appeared in Handloader showing projectiles and their expansion at various velocities. The Hornady Interlocks performed very well, especially the round nose. Some of the fancier projectiles not so well. The Interlock spire point would be my choice for your use.

Thanks, I might get a chance to try the 150 Speers on goats on Boxing day, if it pans out I'll report back.
