Thread: 165 BT from 308 17"

Proba should have asked this first but just bought some 165 Ballistic Tips for the bush hag.

Do they go alright on redskins from 5-200? Should get em going about 2700 I'd say

got a mate who hunts with them, pole-axes them every time.

Hit them with a 165 SGK and you have redskins dropping at your feet

I think @mawzer308 may have used them? I think he was getting 2650ish from a 20" tube?

My favourite go to bullet in the short barreled 308 is the SGK 165. Can't see why the sst wouldn't do the job.

Cheers. Im getting 2650 with 168 vlds out of 17". Might be the 2206h im using?

That sounds a bit closer 2700 would be pushing pretty hard out of a 17" I would have thought?

I ran 168amax at 2750 out of 22'' could go 2800 but hard on brass!

Yeah and my chrony has its moments ha ha

I've got plenty of them 165 @Gibo. My 308 likes them, my last two reds didn't.

My mod 7 seems to like them out of a 16 inch barrel.
Just got some 180 sst loaded to try as well

My Brno loves the 165gr BTs.

They are leaving the barrel at 2680fps.

Bang flop is the usual end result.

Worries about high velocity in the bush. Anything over 2200 with a 165gn will do the job

Agree but if you can grow longer legs with good accuracy why wouldn't you?

I haven't shot a deer or anything over 300m for years. Mind you we don't have those mobs in each 'Valley' you 'South Islanders' commonly see
