Thread: 175g Targex in 300wsm with rl17

hi yall, since 178eldx pills are hard to get I will start loading for 175g Targex hpbt using rl17.

According to Alliants website max "should" be 67 ish grains....... making 64 or 65 safeish
Can anyone check quickload for me to double check min/max with rl17 please?

Bryn's bullets aren't in the QuickLoad or GRT libraries. You'll need to measure a few to get the average dimensions, to increase the accuracy of any predictions from software.

I start my development at 64 with a 165, fwiw

Hey bro, Alliants max loads seem bloody high considering a lot of people hitting pressure round the 62 - 63 grain mark with the 178s in Tikkas.

I had noticed too that a lot of guys getting pressure issues at around 62-63gns RL17. However I’ve just done some load work with 178gn ELDM’s and I had no issues at 64gns. It was the most accurate load too.

so tried rl17 66grains and Targex 175g , got 3065fps, and slotted the gongs easily out to 660 yards, flattened primers so ill back off to 65 or so and try on deer.

Went back to the range to check zero and check for pressure with the 175 Targex- no pressure and bang on at 100m

by the bye- I shot some 95g Targex through my old BSA 243 too- they shot fantastically, literally unreal groups, just need to load more and retry.
