Been doing a bit of research and found a few threads on other forums having issues with the 180ELDM blowing up
Has anyone here had any issues with them?
Had any blow up?
I have just started running them and haven’t had any issues.
Cheers

Life is the art of drawing without an eraser
What distance, FPS and shot placement are they using? Too many variables tbh.
One of my best mates will only run them in his 280ai. Never had an issue with it on deer/tahr/chamois. Great at mid to LR as runs them at 3100+. If people are running them fast, shooting game closerange and complaining the problem is not the bullet it is the shooter
I’m meaning blowing up mid air, quite a few fellas saying they are getting multiple holes in a target from 1 projectile
From what I’ve read running over 3000fps and 1-8 twist and faster

Ive heard of it with the ELDMs but had no trouble. Seems to be at higher speeds, 3000+
I have heard that too. More likely at 3150fps+
I haven't seen it from 3090 fps in a 8 twist
Unsure twist on the rifle but are doing 3150 and no issues. Lots of rounds too( buys them 500 at a time). Wonder if it is a dodgey run?
I've heard the same about 6.5 147 eldms and seen video of them going off. I've only run about 50 of them so can't say. But 1 guy said he had run 300 in his prc with no issues and now they're blowing up. Another guy had them blowing up from his 7.5 twist creed more at 2700?fps. I wonder if hornady have changed something or if its an issue with different lot numbers?

Had a few failures with them in 28 nosler so changed to 175 Eld X and great results
175eldx has a very good bc anyway and is a hunting projectile that opens up and follows through like a nosler partition
crunch the numbers on a 1 in 8 twist doing 3000+ fps......its no wonder they are pulling themselves apart. thats a hell of a lot of centrificle force trying to open projectile BEFORE IT TOUCHES RESISTANCE.
Not 180ELDM but pretty sure @300_BLK experienced something similar with them in a different cal
Well documented in the .264 147gr. Have personally witnessed the 147’s blow up at 6.5CM velocity. Not seen anything regarding this issue in .284.
Warm Barrels!
Was at a shoot recently where a guy had a few jackets from the 180 ELDm that he found on the way to a target that never hit the mark. Out of a .280 Nosler exploded in the air. Not uncommon for that case he said.
Ive done a bit of LR testing with the 180 eldm pushing them at 3200 fps plus from an 8 twist and never had a problem, but not a huge sample.
