    195 eldm 300wsm FFFFFFFFFFFF!

Hey guys, I’m pretty much stuck. I’m doing a load dev for a 300wsm using the following components.

    Normally brass
    Federal215
    Reloader 17
    195eldm

    23”barrel,the guns a proven shooter.

Has anyone played with the 195eldm? I’ve since read some mixed results them, very much on the edge of just tracking down some 178eldx to test and scrapping the 195s. But I’ve got a bunch of them and I’d love to preserver with them. Mag length is limited and making them have to jump a long way which is less than ideal yes, but I’ve tried single feeding them at 20thou off and either side.

Any suggestions or comments on the 195eldm, have you tried them?

Yep, have put around 65 of them down range. Have found a sweet velocity node but groups are horrible and super inconsistent. Nothing has shot well at all. Barrels not fouled, I’d like to think I’m not spastic behind a rifle too.

That's Jesus telling you to change projectiles.
I assume your twist rate allows an adequate stability value?

Yeah sorry, 10 twist, should have thought it’d be proper stable. I guess there’s a reason the 195s never shone like the 178s and 208s/212s!

certain rifles don't "like" certain bullet/powder combinations.

I once did a test with one of my rifles trying sierra tmk and hornady eldm... the tmk was consistently sub-moa over pretty much all loads and no poi shift @100m. the eldm only for one particular (very hot) load...
guess which projectile I went with...

another time one powder/projectile would not produce any proper groupings... same bullet with a faster powder... sub 1/3 moa!

does not mean eldms or the powder you are using are bad. they might just not work too well for this particular rifle...

Could try a different powder. I’ve had rifles shoot the same projectile terrible with one powder and great with another.

So the rifle is a proven shooter with some other projectiles but maybe not with those ones.

    I would switch.

    Plenty of powders to choose from for 300wsm - 2209, 2213SC, SPF, Hyb100V, RL16, N560, IMR4350.

Didn’t even know they made that weight. Try another powder then look at another projectile.
178s with 2209 seems to work most of the time in Tikka and 2213 with the 208s seems to work well also. The 208 ELDM is bloody amazing further out at lower impact speeds, not that WSM would push them too fast anyhow.

I use 62gr of RL17 pushing 200gr eldx at 2940 out of my 23inch xbolt, could get more fps but with groups around half inch why bother

Now you're talking, the box I brought only states 2810, pretty pedestrian.
