I have been using 55 gr Noslar Ballistic Tips on goats and Fallow deer. They work well but for larger reds I would be inclined to use a Barnes or something similar for greater penetration.
Also I would keep the range under 300 yards unless head or neck shots are taken and at that range it could be tricky. At these ranges bullet energy is slipping away rapidly.

Ive shot a couple red deer in the neck with the 50gr vmax
    They dropped on the spot
Probably not best choice of projectile but with right shot placement the results were devastating

Have used the 63gn Sierra's and 60gn Hornady's for the past 43 years, work well on everything.

69gr Tmk zeroed 200m in 1:10 twist, have a 1:8 coming and will move up to 75~80gr. Is great calibre for NZ small/medium stuff.

The lack of a Fast twist is really the only thing that has held it back over the years.

The Bergara B14 comes in 1:9 twist which is bloody cool.

What's the story with putting 1-8 or 1-9 twist barrels on a 22-250? Must be some reason they dont do it at the factory

Probably the danger of loading 40Gr projectiles at 4000fps and exploding them

It was designed as a varmint calibre just like the 6mm rem, I don't think any states in America allowed it for deer sized animals either so there was no point in a fast twist barrel.
