    22-250 loading advice

Hey guys does anyone have any experience with hand loads for the 22-250? I’ve tried ar2206h and Hodgdon Superformance with out any luck. There seems to be a lot of space between the powder and projectile not sure if that’s an issue??

I use AR 2208 with a charge of 36 grains with the 55 gr Noslar BT. Haven't tried other powders but this combo works ok in my rifle (Mod 700 SPS) Velocity is 3588 fps average.

With my above load there is a bit of space between bullet and powder, you tend to get that a bit more often with the medium burning powders unlike the slower burners which tend to fill the cases close to full.

2213 SC is a slow burning powder and isn't suited to the 22 250, you need a medium burning powder.

24” 1:14 twist I’ve tried 55g sp and 60g Vmax with adequately disappointing performances

1:14 pretty much the ideal twist for 55 grains what are the dissapointing results, speed or accuracy. Its a catridge thats known go be easy to get good accuracy from with just about any load.

Na I’m not interested in speed I just want something that’ll group an inch or better to use on varmint. I’ve tried 3 different types of factory ammo and it sprays them all over the paper as well

For years I used to load 38 grains of Dupont IMR 4064 under a 50 grain Hornady Spire-point. For the last 25 or so it has been 36.5 grains of ADI 2208 under a 55 grain Hornady SP. Have also used 42 grains of ADI 2209 under a 60 grain Nosler partition.
All rifles I've had will shoot these into 1/2 inch or better at 100.

I recently built up a load for a mauser Amax , I tried a few different projectiles , 60g partition , 55g barnes ttsx neither were any good in fact the barnes were going sideways ! in the end I just went for a bog standard 55g serria spbt , rem large rifle 9.5 primers , 39 grans W760 ball powder with an oal 61.75 that's my max magazine length , get excellent accuracy I haven't chronied the load yet but I have shot 6 deer with the load , longest shot 260y and was really impressed with the damage it was a very large 2yo prego hind ....I shot the wrong deer after zooming up on 18x I got lost amongst the herd

Varget or 3031, 36gr, CCI 200 and a 55 gr soft point either Speer or Serria, worked well in both my 22-250's, try a flat base bullet, quite often they shoot very well, and a much less fickle than a boat tail, and take a hard look at the crown if it still doesn't shoot well, I've seen a couple SPS, with very poor finished barrels.

Sounds like something is a bit off with your rig. I would've thought at least one of the factory loads would have shot MoA.
Is the muzzle crown undamaged, scope mounts tight, barrel free of copper fouling?
