I just acquired a nice Marlin 22 mag, with a heavy varmint barrel.
It is quite unbalanced, and noisy. Therefore thinking of a chop and suppress.
How short can I go without risking accuracy out to 100 mts?

Assuming your going to have a scope, short will likely increase accuracy.
Head over to the site ballistics by the inch to see what you are likely to do to your speed at various lengths. I ended up with a 12" barrel and am very happy with it

Bloody hell! 12inches is, well, 12 inches.
Still legal I presume

Or go the whole hog and take it down to 762mm overall and it will fit in your pack better! Though being rimfire you can't take it on doc land
Give me a beer and 5 minutes with a hacksaw, I'll sort it for ya, 765mm total length
Cant guarantee a straight cut though
Trust the dog.........................................ALWAYS Trust the dog!!
They say that a 22lr uses 100% of its powder in 10-12 inches of barrel. I was going to go 14 with it . They other option is to take a crony and a hacksaw down the range and find you length
