    .223 1-7 twist

Hey guys just wondering what people are finding work great in this twist. Just got a new spikes 1-7 twist and have had 1-9 in the past and used 55gr hornady but looking at using something about heavier. Ordered some 75gr and 55gr just to have a go with.

Ideally wanting an option that I can just buy. Will look into reloading later.
    Cheers

    75gr ready loaded?

My yet to be here Ar15

has a 1 in 7, so Im currently getting in 20 of 223/556 of every FMJ / hp flavour I can find to try. 1 in 7 is supposed to be more suited to 62gr+, we'll see.

BTW Guncity has a xmas sale this weekend 10% off ammo I think, and Bemont has a freight free Friday tomorrow.

75gn is the Hornady HP match factory ammo.

For reloading, max size is the 77gn Matchkings. Anything bigger or more pointy (ie AMaxes) won't fit the mag.

    Personally I use 65gn Gamekings and 69gn Matchkings in my 1 in 9" AR15 and 1 in 8" Sako.

A few factory loads for the 69gn Matchkings are around, Federal, Fioccchi and BVAC I think. Possibly even Remington too.

    I've got a Savage Model 12 .233 with a 1:7 twist.

Handloading with an 80g Amax, 24.5g 2208 it has shot targets out to 900 yards competitively against .308s.
It's about to be trialled at 1000 yards this weekend.

With 80g Amax, 24.7 g 2208 the standard Savage Model 12 .223 was competitive at `1000 yards at Trentham Rifle Range over the weekend.

just brought an AR with a 1 in 7 krieger barrel tried some 55grn Hornady through it and put 5 rounds into a tiny ragged hole. I think if it's got a good barrel on it it should shoot most things well.

"69Gr SMK" trouble is they are $2 a go, some of them near $3, that is just crazy, worse than my 308w costs.

I reload the SMKs for around 75c each round for my .223s.

I see a full reloading kit for you under the Christmas tree. Start dropping hints to the Mrs now.

    My CMMG has a 16" 1-7 barrel.

Just begun load development using BM2 powder.

77gr Serrias shot like shit, could hardly keep them on an A4 at a hundy
Best group was around 2" at half a grain under book maximum.

60gr Hornadys shot like shit too, again best group was about 1.5" and half a grain under book maximum.

55gr Barnauls shot very well, best group was sub 1" about half a grain under book maximum.

Bit of a pattern emerged with all three loads giving the best groups about half a grain under book maximum load.

Also I seated them out to mag length. 2.260"

The groups opened up for all loads when seated even 10 thou deeper.

Have yet to chronograph these loads and or try them out on goats.

Would like to try some 64, 65 and 69gr projectiles as well.

    Cheers
    Pete

I load Sierra 69gr HPBT match for my 1-7 shoots great, can go down to 55gr but it prefers the 69s.

Next are some 62gr's see how they go

I find that 77gr SMKs will shoot 1/2 inch groups out of my NEA 1 in 7 twist barrel. Most other projectiles shoot inch or bigger, some like 55gr HPs much bigger. Ouch think I might try a 1 in 8 twist next time. Not many options for loaded ammo with these heavy projectiles.
