Years ago I used reduced loads in my Tikka 222.
At that time you could buy a bag of Winchester 22 magnum projectiles (Gun City in Christchurch). I think I used to buy a 1kg bag at a time. Certainly was a good deal then.
The 22 magnum rounds are a 'proper' round, made the same as a centrefire round (ie. they have a copper outer shell, not like a plain 22LR with a copper wash on to the lead).
They were great.
Quiet (no suppressors in those days), cases lasted forever, cheap to reload.
Can you still buy the 22 magnum projectiles?
I haven't shot or reloaded a centrefire rifle for about 20 years now.
Maybe go this way with your 223?
You can certainly run them up at Hornet velocity no sweat if you want to.
