    223 Projectile

    Gday from Australia.

I am loading for my 223 and the 50gr nosler BT suits majority of my hunting needs (rabbits and foxes) and is accurate in my rifle.

Just wandering if anyone has any experience with it on wallabies, goats or even pigs?

Would like to have one projectile and load only that's all.

    Thanks in advance

I think @7mmsaum on here uses 60gr nbt's for goats to good success. Can't see why the 50 nbt won't work on them too. Plenty of people would have shot plenty of medium game with 50g from a 222 after all.

Have used the 40gr NBT pretty extensively on wallabies, with a bit of use on goats too, so should mostly transfer across to the 50gr too..

Very very effective projectile on wallabies. Have tried a range of pills, 55sp, 60hp, 50vmax, and several more, none performed as consistently as the 40s.. The Vmax gave similar terminal performance, but the 40s seemed a little more forgiving, almost as if they enlarged the effective vital 'bang-flop' zone by an inch or so in each direction.

Pretty good on goats too, but did have a couple of delayed kills on big billies. Still did the job, just took a little while before they realised. Nannies and young ones, no problems though..

Yes I use the 60g NBT a lot and have shot plenty with them, the 50g NBT works just as well and as always shot placement is the key to success .

Don't forget the 55g Gameking -its exceptional on goats and light thin skinned game of all sizes

a sample pack of barnes 50 grners will give you enough to confirm where its zero is and you can keep the remainder in you pocket for the odd occasion you see a big pig or even a deer, I rate them very highly for that job.
wallabies go down with most any .223 load but the softer ones do it faster but with more mess.
a mate uses the 55grn nbt on deer with great results.

I wouldn't shoot a pig, particularly a big boar with a varmint projectile. Personally I would choose something a little less explody.

    Wallibes should be fine.

I've used nosler 55gr BTs in the 243 on pigs and a fallow - useless. The boar it stuck under the skin and the deer I hit twice and never found.

    SPs way to go.

Does anybody use the Sierra 55gr game King that @7mmsaum mentioned? What sort of accuracy potential these have?

Have used them on deer without any problems but prefer the 53gr Barnes and the old Nosler 55 and 60gr solid base. But with any light cal shot placement is the answer.

Wish I could get accuracy like that @GWH. I'm getting more like 30-35mm at 100m. Thinking maybe I have them seated to deep thou. Have to do some more load development.
