    223 projectiles 62 grain+

A mate has just ordered a 223 with 1:8" twist and is wanting to shoot 62- 75 grain projectiles with it.
Its for a tikka, so we can open up the mag for the long projectiles easy enough.

What have the masses here seen in performance from the projectiles in this weight range?
Mainly shooting goats and some fallow with the set up.

Just really wondering what works well and is easy enough to get hold of also.

    75gr Amax?

    Cheers in advance

75 Amaxs seem to be popular, yet to try them in my 223. Tried some factory ammo loaded with 69smks, seemed to shoot as good as the usual 55gr loads.
Put holes in my 6mm steel targets at 100m though!

I got really good accuracy with the Hornady 68gr HPBT from my Savage Lightweight, but found they just pencilled straight through wallabies and didn't perform too impressively on fallow either. Just a bit too solid for light game, I think.

I found the opposite, they demolish goats

Interesting. I only shot a few fallow with them, so it's possible I'm judging them unfairly there, but was definitely seeing a lot of pencilling and delayed kills on wallabies.

Mine was a pretty soft load, so it's possible they just weren't going fast enough for best effect. Out of an 18" bolt gun.

Had quick kills on wallabies at 130 and 300 with the 68bthp from mine, but pencilling with delayed kills up close. Haven't tried them on any goats yet either.

I use the 62 grain scirocco. Expensive but accurate. I get 3250 fps with the same charge as my 55 grain load.
Shot a handful of deer with them and they work a treat.

Not cheap! $100ish iirc. I bought enough to last me a while. Only plan to use them on deer and the like.

Res do you know what speed your getting?

My gut feeling is that 75gr is too heavy for the little 223.

    But maybe not
