Haven't had a 223 for years, but I have a itch to scratch.
With everyone grabbing the 1-8 fast twist barrel one's, just out'a interest whats the heaviest projectiles you can run in a 1-12 or 1-14 barrel ?

Shoot it, root it & then BBQ it !!!
Get a 1 in 8 and be the envy of all your friends

Because hitting a rabbit with a 32gr Vmax is awesome.....
Seriously, it depends on what you want it for. Mine was for Varminting and the 32-50gr weights work really well, go over 55gr and results start to get less accurate. Minute of goat rather than minute of rabbit at 300 metres. for an all rounder, the 1: or 1:9 would be rather good too though.
Run a heavy pill and you wont have that issue
Ive shot great groups further then that with my fast twist 223s running the factory belmont 77gn ammo.
Light pills slow down fast and get beat to death in the wind
Great for the splatter effect tho

Phil, if you are getting a custom barrel, think of going 7 twist.
There are some pretty funky heavy 223 pills available.

The yanks seem to have this thing for light projectiles, most 22-250 ammunition is loaded with light pills, and they build stupid big wildcats like the 6.5-300wby with the sole intention of making a 123gr 6.5 bullet go stupid fast. They also invented a thing called the 25-06..... I just cant get my head around that cartridge

Heavy slow expanding pills are.just a cunt on hares
to my way of thinking if you intend to run 70plus grain projectiles you may as well use a .243 my 1 in 12 will handle 64 grn winchester factory stuff...normally 50-55 grn is plenty enough...if you target something bigger use a TTSX... AND IF YOU HAVE A 1 IN 8 and try running the 35-45grn loads hot....they quite poosibly wont make it to the target as the centrifical force will rip them apart which @Ryan Songhurst is the reason 22-250s and the like run slow twist barrels...they tell me when the swift first came out they had trouble getting projectiles to hold together...same theory velocity and twist rate and linked...you can only spin something so fast before it will explode.....why we get nice mushroom shaped projectlies.
I deliberately bought a 1-8 223 so I can run something from the 69GrTMK to say77gr withmaybe the Hornady 75 inbetween, just whichever one runs better.
After that runs out of puff the 6.5 can take over.
That is my plan anyway
