I currently have a 22magnum i use for possums/Rabbits and it goes well.
I Do majority of Possum shooting at 20-40m so it doesnt seem right to zero the Magnum at this length.
There are some nice 9mm rifle options available that would suit a closer range zero.
My question is though what will be the knockdown difference?
Any ideas?

9mm would have roughly 100 ft/lb energy at 100y? Would make it the better option for short range knockdown.

Subsonic 9mm sure does the job on them
9 mm would require a backstop or for you to line up a half dozen or so to prevent "rain on the roof" for the neighbors. 22 mag is a little more frangible but safe shooting practice still applies.
inside 20-40Ms does it really matter ?
Of course it doesnt "matter", Small game at close range is not a difficult prospect. My real decision i have to make is, Zero my 22mag to 30-40m or buy a different rifle and have it fit for purpose. If im going to get a better knockdown aswell and get a few more smiles then these are bonus features... :)
