87g Sierra HPBT over 2209. Unsure if that's going to do the business in a 16.5" though.
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds
Was running 85gn tsx out of 16in barrel front of 40gn 2206 not sure you can get that now but 40gn of imr 3031 does the same thing 3000fps and accurate
I'm using 2208, with a Hornady 87 gr HPBT. Longer barrel though.
Suspect 2206h would be a better choice.
Let us know how you get on.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.
You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !
I load 100gr SGK in front of IMR7828ssc in my fathers 18.5 inch model 7, doing just shy of 2900. The heavier pill holds a bit more energy as the range gets out.
Gidday dawg,
I would recommend a Monolithic bullet light for calibre. something like the barnes TTSX 80gr or TSX in 85gr. Or something cheaper like the 80gr GMX. as for powders since you have quite a short barrel I might try looking at a fast powder like Benchmark 8208.
a certain chap from up nelson way will be along soon to tell you federal powershocks in 100grn will be all you ever need....... at sub 200 yards he could well be right.
Run an 18" barrel with Sierra 85gr HPBT with 2209 44.4g

@sneeze whats the issue with using 8208?
I see it is listed as a powder you can use for a 80gr GMX on the ADI site.
Its not the powder , its the reference to using a faster powder because the barrel is short. While on the surface it would seem logical in reality it dosnt work that way.

Oh really, I didn't know that was the case. I would have thought that it would burn quicker so less powder being shot out into the suppressor causing undue wear on it.
I contacted ADI asking what there thoughts were they said a faster burning powder would be more suitable, not my opinion theres
2 tsp of confetti over 40 grains of WW760
Not very effective past 12”
Warm Barrels!
