    243 powders

sooner or later, once I'm kitted up (could be a while) I would like to load up some 95gr targex for the 243.
I see someone recently used RE33, does anyone else have any powder recommendations?
I do realise it comes down to the individual rifle but I would imagine there are several powders that just work in the 243.
I just cant afford to buy different powders to try unless they also work in the other calibres I want to reload for.
    Cheers

I use ADI powders because they are easy to get. In the 243 I use AR2209 because it seemed to be the most recommended. I use 2208 in other calibres and could have used that instead.

I'm in the exact same place, @csmiffy. Have loaded my first batch, just trying to find a chance to make it to the range. @TARGEX recommended I try AR2209, and if that didn't work, try AR2213. I have some of both if you want to try-before-you-buy.

BTW it is a circa 1990 Winchester lightweight-standard barrel so must be 22-24"?

I use win 760/H414. Similar burn rate to 2209.

Am running 2209 driving 95 Berger, going 3050fps and flattens big bodied Bull Tahr on the spot. 2206H for 80 grainers, really makes them honk along

How many grains using in 2206H? Might be a goer for the Barnes 80gr TTSX.

40 if it's a boat tail/frangible - but a shitload less if it's a hard bullet with lots of bearing surface ( TTSX and GMX) and length, they get pressure much faster than light jacket bt's. You should try the 95 or even the 87 Berger, they just kill shit dead on the spot!

Purchased some 87gr Berger but hesitant about 95gr because info is 95gr require 8 twist or less. Anyone using 10 twist because 87gr from their website says 10 twist ok.

The 105 will give you trouble, but the 95 will not (based on a Rem 700 and T3 that both stabilized the 95 just fine) Powders : 2209, Re22, 2213sc, IMR4451, IMR 4320, 2206h all work (in my rifle). 2206h will really get the 87gn VLD zipping along, put it in the boiler room not the shoulder. (95 in the shoulder is fine) Other powders work too, just those are what I have and they work well.

Im loading 87gr Bergers with 44gr of H414 in Dads original Rem Model 7 (whatever twist they are, 10 i think) they shoot seriously good, but it liked lots of jump to shoot best. Velocity is 3,128 with a ES of 2 fps!! from the factory 18.5 inch unsuppressed barrel. They shoot 1.25" group at 300 yards. A bit of a magic load in this rifle.

2208 in my 20” barreled Mossberg
2206h in my PH Safari, 18 “ barrel.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

2209, 2213SC, are the most common ones I use. Superformance works well also. RLoader powders like RL 22 are good too. I think I heard somewhere that RL 26 is a good one to use as well. plenty out there to choose from. Slower Burn rates are all good in the 243.
