    25 Cal these days

Years ago I built a couple of 257s, a 250-3000 and a 257 Robert's. I sorta moved away from them, attracted (I think) by the better projectiles offered in 6.5s and from there I've since gone to things 6mm.

Now there are starting to be some pretty interesting 257 cal projectiles, for example the Hornardy 134 gn ELD-M.

So, who is running a rifle designed (fast twist) for these new 257's and how are you finding them?

I'm in the same boat have had and used .25 for more than 30 years.
    25-08 a favorite I'm now thinking of a 25 GT or 25 Creedmoor with a 1-7 twist to shoot the 134eldm.
I know there has been a few built and Jaco has just finished building a 25 Creedmoor.
So I'm interested in hearing more as well.

    Greetings,
Regrettably the .25 calibre cartridges have been caught in a gap between the 6 and 6.5mm cartridges with their fast twist barrels. Only the .25-06 survives. Only time will tell what happens next. The rot started when Winchester and Remington introduced their 6mm cartridges and accelerated when Americans "discovered" 6,5 mm cartridges. A custom rifle is the only way to currently own a fast twist .25. What will the future bring?

Don't forget about all the good monolithic bullets like the hammers. I'm hoping for 3200fps from a 250 Savage. The .25 will rule again

Depends on application, the new class of 25 cal bullets is aimed at 'long range/precision' shooting, either around the 25 Creedmoor or 25x47 (simple neck-down) squeezing performance out of the 134 ELDM or 133/135 Berger will need a 22-26" barrel, slow-ish powder, good brass and run between 2750-2900 fps, any more velocity out simply ruins brass and may hurt precision (SD and ES).

Some Yanks have gone mental building 'new magnums' based around these bullets (25 SAUM, 25-6.5 PRC etc).

Need to keep in mind that these new bullets are quite long, and you may run out of space if using the old 25-06 in anything other than a 'true' long action (Rem 700 LA or similar).

Have a 25 CM build lined up, once funds allow. Personally don't see the point in breaking 3k FPS for the sake of it, more recoil, powder and barrel burned just for the sake of 'mine is bigger and better than yours...?'

There are substantial rumours circulating about a 25CM factory release. Would be cool but I suspect Hornady don't have the capacity at the moment. They will probably release it if Trump wins...

Out of idle curiosity I have had a trawl on line of the 25 high B.C. wildcat speculation as @caberslash mentioned.

    Certainly interesting
But @Tentman you are already running 6mm and 6.5mm bolt guns which should do exactly the same task

Why not go back to your roots Foster and do a 25 cal single shot ?
This is one time I would advocate for the Ruger no1 and an old fashioned 25-06 with a nice new fast twist SS barrel.

With a modern strong single shot action cartridge over all length will never be an issue.
A 25-06 chamber reamer with a long throat should be around ( I will ask my contacts ).
Brass and dies will never be an issue
Just find a donor Ruger no1.

Then you don't have to reinvent the wheel

Hmmm, I already have an action that might do it, a Browing Low Wall Repro, its in 22 K Hornet just now but I have the .473 extractor for it tucked away . . .

Just finished a beautiful 25 Creedmoor for another forum member, and have some more lined up. the 25s taken off in a big way. I belief we will be seeing s lot on 25cal in the near future. A good mate has been shooting a 25-06 since forever, I've always been of the opinion that a 25/08 Improved would have been a better option since a short action could be used.

One of the top shooters from Namibia has been shooting a 25 Koevoet(25/08 Imp) and it left an lifelong impression on me - even though I'm a died in the wool 6mm shooter.

I've been between fires - 25/08 Improved or Creedmoor??? The shorted case of the Creedmoor does make a lot of sense.....and then I learned about the existence of the 25GT!

So many calibres, so little time

Go on do it make a gt then I'll know which way to go.
I used a 25-08 IMP for a number of years, great cal and really want another 25 so maybe I need to get in line.
