Thread: .260 Advice

Hey team, What's everyone's experience with .260 with reloading, ballistics and distance?

I've got the joy of a blank canvas of a 6.5mm barrel with a ZKK601 action. The idea of getting it chambered in .260 came up from having excess .308 brass and been able to size it down.

I'm using 44.5 grns of 09 with the 147 eld-match getting just under 2800fps in my sako 85

I have the Ackley version and love it but if I had to do it all again I would honestly just go with the standard clambering.
I am starting to look at building one for my son's 16th B day.
Have put a lot of thought into it and can't think of a better first caliber for him.

It is a great caliber that has a huge selection of projectiles.

Good on targets beyond a km and kills well with the right load out to 500. People will claim longer kills and that's all good but I personally wouldnt attempt to take an animal of medium size much further.
Inherently accurate thru a lot of rifle brands. Easy to load develop for.

What did you do for brass? Did you buy .260 or size down existing cases from another caliber?

I did a bit of research and .260 did sound good! I've got a blank Douglas Barrel in 6.5mm to be matched up with a BRNO ZKK601.

Just ordered a Boyd's AT-One stock (with the help of a friend bring back to get around America's shipping laws). Next big decision will be choosing optics for it.

@dnsn Re your mate and stock remember that ANY firearm part (including stocks) over US$100 in value needs an export permit. Don't let your mate end up in an american jail by having the stock in his checked luggage without an export permit.

everything I looked into just said for "shipping" it. How hard is the export permit to get?

Thanks, I've already got it in process shipping somewhere, so I'll see if I can get an export licence without needing to ship it direct to them. Otherwise I'll cancel the order for now

Great caliber. Like some, I made mine different and went the 30 degree improved version to make the brass last longer & look sexier. Buy 260 brass like Lapua, bugger resizing it from 308.

Yeah, I'm considering that too. A quick look online and it looks like a mission to resize.

Re sizing should be easy, there's enough people here who have done it to give you advice.
I have had great success using Remington 260 brass, but have now got myself some Lapua.

My Tikka T3 is a joy to shoot, not much recoil, accurate and easy to reload for.
