    260 bull tahr projectiles

    Hi there.

Got a new toy on the way and was wondering what projectiles people have used successfully on bull tahr? Out of a 260 rem, it's currently around 2900fps with a 147eldm. Obviously shot placement is key but they are a tough animal so would like to hear people's thoughts/ experience.

    Cheers

Eldm will be fine at a bit of range esp once it slows down a bit but mate of mine has had success with 140gr gamekings on tahr in his bog standard 260

I really dont understand this obsession people have for shooting sturdily built animals with match grade bullets....

ELDMs are a long range target bullet.
So are VLD's. So are ELDX.

People designed the Accubond, the TTSX and the Partition for a reason. Use them.
If it were me, I'd go Barnes 127gr LRX and develop a good load for it. They work.

Eldm/amax are one of the best killing bullets out there. Mate used the 180eldms on tahr and I have used the 162eldm on red and sika stags under 100yds with devastating affect. Another friend loads 168 amax in his 308 and he shoots around 50 deer a year plus tahr, chamois, pigs from 10yds out to 550+

Have you actually tried ELD-Ms on game, or did you read about them on the internet?

ELD-M is a match bullet, but it’s also the best long range bullet on game. I have used them in a variety of cartridges, along with A-Max on a variety of game over many years on 3 continents. ELD-X is a game bullet through and through, and a good one at that.

TTSX and Partition are both excellent bullets at close to medium range, but are not good at longer ranges. LRX is also a poor choice at long range. Just my opinions, but with respect, I think your views are off.

    Let's put it this way.
Iv shot more Thar than all of you put together. I promise you that.
I have used every projectile mentioned on this thread. And a few others.

There comes a time where a person needs to learn from mistakes. I'm only trying to give my view that shooting bull Thar with bullets made from tin foil eventually ends badly.

OK, that’s your opinion, but others will differ.

ELD-M is indeed a thin jacketed bullet (but not tinfoil) that breaks up on impact at low velocities. That’s what makes it a good LR bullet and a not so good option at close range and high velocities.

Your favoured bullets are good close up, but poor at long range. There’s no all round solution.

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree, and I will go on using my ELDs successfully.

Partition for close stuff and ELD-M for longer stuff would be the go.

Probably because they work and everyone who uses them swears by them?

    ELDMs are a target bullet.
ELDXs are not, they are designed for use on medium to large game.

I use 147 eldm in mine but at a more modest 2700 fps. They work well. I reckon 140 ballistic tip or 140 Sierra gameking would be spot on.

Remember when 260s became real popular and everyone had magic 260s that could shoot the 140 amax at 3100fps. Ah, the good old days
