260 loads
Hey team just looking into 260s again... I am looking online to get an idea of speed for certain projectiles and then playing around on strelok to get an idea of the rifles capabilities. Have taken a liking to the 143gr ELD-X, nosler BT 140gr and the 140gr SSTs.
Anyone have much luck with these pills out of a 22" barrel? Will speed be smashed too much if the barrel is chopped to 20"?
Cheers SD

Beeman is using 45 grains of AR 2209 in his Sako 260 and the 143 gr ELD X, velocity is 2770fps, I don't think his barrel was shortened so is standard length for a Carbon light. This load is max in his rifle.

From memory carbon light barrels are 20" instead of the standard 22".
-
OK so that is moving esp out of a 20" barrel. Will see what others return but I like the sound of that load as a mate has 4kg of 2209 that he is no longer using haha

Im running a tikka t3 in 260. 143 eld-x with 2209 44 grains at 2750 fps out of a 22 inch barrel i think. goes really well.

You can get more speed with Hodgdon Superproformance powder from memory late 2800 to 2900 with the ELDX 20"

Was getting 2820 with 143s in my 85. Im now running 130 bergers in a mod 7 for 2900 fos

Yeah my first choice bullets would be 143gr ELD-X, Sierra HPBT 142gr or berger 130s after reading stuff online.

147 ELD-M, 2209, 2740fps from 19.4" barrel 85 Finn. Don't try this at home (unless you have a long throat & oversize chamber as I appear to have).

Pretty similar to Gibo, 140 Amaxes doing 2800 and 120's doing 2900 181/2 inch M7 with 2209 Its not hot loads but pretty reliable on accuracy.

Not what you wanted to know Superdiver,,but nice to see another .260 thing happening eh.
120grn Sierra Pro Hunters- 44grs 2209. 18'' model 7..........very accurate, not worried about the speed thing.
I tried 44.5 grns of 2209 but primers showed cratering.
There is a lot of imfo on the subject and with a little common sense added it can sure set one on the right track.
