Thread: 260 Rem compressed load

Hi,I've loaded up a batch of 129gr ablr's,this feels a very compressed load but is at maximum mag length for my model 7,is this safe,I'm at 46.0 gr of 2213sc,ta

It depends if that load hit pressure in your rifle.

No pressure signs at all but then I seated a bit deeper as was slightly to long for mag

I have not been able to get decent pressure in my 260 with 2213 with anything from 130 all the way to 147 grain unless I was willing to settle for a lousy 2700fps so i just had to use 2209 .

Have you tried the Hornady 129 SP they seem good in short magazine rifles.
Also Hodgdon superproformance is a good powder for the .260.

Seating that bit deeper will increase pressure, which may or may not be OK with your rifle. Can you modify your magazine to increase OAL?

No easy way,I would happily go back to Partitions instead but have these here

Primers are never a good indicator.

Check for ejector marks and brass shavings, stiff bolt lift,and 'clickers' (primary extraction cam working hard).

No ejector mark,stickiness etc all seems fine

No I just settled for 2710 with 42.3 grains of 2209 for the 147g still shoots flatter and Less wind affected than the 130 grain eldm at 1300 + yards .
as far as I'm concerned the case really needs improving and you need about 0.280" free bore and it's got to be built on a long action like my first 260 .

Agree about being on a long action mine have all been on a Tikka action and did do an improved version but there was not a lot of gain for the extra effort involved.

300m is a long shot for me which I why I usually run Partitions bor 130gr ttsx,most shots under 100m,so these lrab projectiles are probably being wasted but a dead deer is always a good outcome

What length barrel?

Lilkly also dropping chamber pressure as your coming away from the rifling
