    260Ackley Improved Loads

    Hi Guys,

Starting to think of 260AI loads and was wondering what powder, bullets, brass and loads (I understand loads are rifle specific, just curious) are you using. What speeds to expect from a 24 inch barrel?

Thinking of running ADI2209, 143eldx and Lapua brass

    Cheers

Couldn't think of a better place to start than what you are planning.

I have tried every powder and projectile combo I could think of for mine.
My barrel was very picky tho.

129 interlock which I still use a lot for reds and shots inside 300ish
123, and 140 Amax were very accurate.
But I settled on the 130 berger VLD hunting and Win 760 powder. I have good case life, excellent accuracy and and velocity with a low ES.

One powder I haven't tried but have heard is good in the improved is RL16. But I am pretty content with how it goes now.

I was using Lapua brass, RL17 and 143gr ELDX for about 2940fps in a 24.5" barrel. I now run RL26 and 147 ELDM for 2900fps, which is much easier on cases than the RL17 was. Mines a 30deg Improved & long throat, not 40deg as per the Ackley design.

I only used it for fire forming my cases, didn't try any load development. I wouldn't expect you would attain your best velocity with it but the 2209 is known for its accuracy.

I am no expert but looking at burn rates 2209 and RL17 is very similar? Would be interesting to see the difference in velocity

2209 didn't show it was equal to RL17 in mine. RL17 was faster for less powder.

2209 was accurate but I didn't get velocity as easy as I did with 17 or 760.

I am using Nosler brass at the moment only because I got a fair bit cheap.
Norma and Lapua also went well.

Once you start tinkering you will find out what goes best.

Yeah also think so. Not too worried about maxing out for velocity. Accuracy and a bit more fps will be good enough for me.

Some guys have the standard 260s running faster than my Ackley.
But overall I think it is an improvement over the parent case.

I look forward to your results.
If your in the south island I have some powders I have tried and don't use that you could try.
    What rifle?

Are you going to neck down 7mm08 brass or fireform from 260rem?

Mine was running laupa brass and hodgdon superprofrmance powder.
Mine had a 22" barrel and getting around 2900fps I think without looking up my data.
My standard .260 with a 20" barrel is only 40fps behind and just as accurate.
