    260rem 140gr amax any good thoughts ?

Hi all so been to the range yesterday arvo testing out a few loads with the 140amax. And what I have found is that past book max I'm getting a avg of 2720fps out of my standed tikka but did notice the groups getting better but stopped on 43.5grs. No signs of presser and ezy bolt lift etc. should I be happy with this or work up a little bit more? Thoughts please

My brass was win 243 and had half inch to an inch groups when I swapped to lapua my es dropped heaps but my groups opened up

I look at the max velocity in the reloading books, not max powder weight. Most rifles have sloppier chambers and barrels compared to the universal receiver used by the reloading book authors. For the same powder weight the rifle will usually produce less pressure and hence less velocity than the universal receiver.
ADI manual lists 2730 as the max velocity with 260 and 140gr projectile and 2217 powder. Pressure is 57,000 psi. So you are probably about where you should be.

Don't worry about fps, the animal won't notice 100fps
    If its accurate use it.
A 140amx doing 2720's going to kill plenty of shit dead

Just to chuck it out there, an animal WILL notice 100 fps especially using monolithic or tough bonded bullets.
I have loaded well up from best accuracy plenty of times to take advantage of the extra energy, after all I am man enough to admit I cannot shoot 1/4MOA from any position cold tired and breathing heavily so dont require that level of accuraccy,I rather stoke it up and use all of the caliber potential providing its in that 1/2-1moa band.

That said that projectile at that speed will do the job.

    I was running the 140s at 2900-2950 from my 26" 260.

All I can say is they are very soft at those velocities up close, very nice at distance though

A slower velocity wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing for close shots with the 140 Amax.

@Kiwi Greg being that my barrel is 22inc long would I be pushing shit uphill expecting to get a extra 100fps or so. And would you expect the groups to open. ?
