Is 2630 fps slow for a 143 grain eldx in 6.5 creedmoor ?

as the title says just wondering, I'm happy with the load acurrate enough 1 Moa some times. Smaller Tested out to 500 yards. On steel still Moa at those distances ( or sub ) shot wallabies. Out to. 500. And a red. At 200 A few fallow Longest 280 yds. So seems to be a good load My question is more couriosity than anything not. Planning. On changing anything

Barrel length and ammo details please? If handloaded I can run the figures through QuickLOAD.

throw away your chronygraph and be a much more happy hunter......... you getting results you need, who really gives a hoot how fast load is going unless you intend to dialup etc.... heck my pet load for .308 is probably doing 2200-2300fps but the animals that get SMASHED by it dont care how slow it goes.
I read from tone of your post its just curiosity.....but do keep in mind what that did to the cat.

to put it into perspective you are chucking 143 grns of lead n copper sucessfully at 2650fps
the mighty poohseventy wont do it a hell of a lot faster (300-400 if really hot)and SOME factory loading of 130grns wont be much quicker at all.

Thats right there with the 6.5x55 not many complain about the Swede, If reloading you can go higher but at the cost of case life,
The Ceedmoor was designed for shooting targets up to 600 yards it does that very well and is great to 1000 yards,
just work on the accuracy a friend has a 6.5 Creedmoor Howa it will shoot .5 MOA at 200m and his eyesight is crap.

If stuff falls over when you point it at stuff, and you are confident with it, then I think its working fine. Sometimes I wonder if we get too caught up in this whole "more better'er, faster, longer " thing.

My own hunting rifle has just had the VX6HD 3-18 taken off it and a 2-8 put in its place, balances miles better now in the hand and i feel more confident with it. I also found more velocity = more damage = less meat recovered. (I aim at the big bit as I am not good enough shot to aim for the head like the pro's do)
In my rifle I use the same projectiles and even though mine are going 500fps faster than yours the deer are not any deader when shot with my gun over yours,
Sometime we loose sight of the fact that a lot of deer were shot/taken with less than the latest /fastest/ flashiest calibre's

Now if we talk target rifles then more/better/faster/whizzy and "bling" are all words that definitely apply

    I couldnt agree more .

I was having a conversation with a mate about similar things the other day .
He brought up a good point in that in the old days when he and I started out there was no one dialing up elevation with range finders , and ballistic charts .
You sighted your rifle in about 3 inches high at 100 yards worked out roughly where it was hitting at 250 or 300 and went hunting .
If you were ever brave enough to try shooting something at a genuin 300 yards you held high on the shoulder hopeing to drop the bullet into the boiler room .
Velocity did play a part in this form of shooting , the faster you moved the bullet the less drop you got out at 300 which made your life a fraction easier .
Now with dial up turrets and precision range finders etc which allow precise bullet placement at longer ranges it doesnt really matter how fast your bullet is traveling and trying to ring the last 50 fps out of your load is not needed .
A good quality projectile in the most accurate and consistant load you can find is the medicine in my opinion , and even in the old fashioned set it and forget it shooting that was the norm and what I still do , I now chase accuracy over speed everytime .

I'm getting 2790fps in my Ruger predator but exactly as others have said if you have a load that is working. Dead is dead and faster is no deader.

2630 is only 50fps slower than the precision hunter factory load I chronied
and that was out of a 24" barrel

@Bernie, you will probably need to drop test this load to get it properly tuned to the ballistics apps.

With the 143gr ELD-X mine is 42.4gr AR2209 from a 24" barrel, the chronograph says 2,725fps. First hunt with it, I was shooting just over the top of small goats at 400m+. So I checked the ballistics with a drop test, the data and trajectory validation at 300,400,500m consistently said 2,800fps.

So I used 2,800fps instead as the MV, went back out and no goat was safe. Just dropped 'em one after the other. It doesn't matter which ballistics model I use, they are all bang on now with this adjusted MV, dialling up anywhere between 150-700m.

I haven't cross checked my chrono yet, but couple of weeks ago it was measuring subsonic loads perfectly because just below the sound barrier as measured, the rounds stopped making the crack sound.

So I haven't actually worked out what's going on. It can't be BC, cos to get that kind of improvement it would have to be like 0.9+.

Good practice to do the drops test. Always fine tunes the ballistics model very close to perfection.
