    .270 - 150gr projectiles

    Hi members

Interested to hear your experiences with this weight in .270. I have tried SST's in my sako and found them to have outstanding accuracy. Muzzle Velocity is pretty glacial for a .270, at around 2600fps, at book max with 2209. I will be trying it over book max, as I am getting zero pressure signs on a hot sunny day.

Interested in MV and accuracy with powders.

    Thanks

The heavier projectiles in 270 (ie 150gns) go better with a slower powder. I used Vit N560 and ADI2213sc with all my 140-161gn projectiles and from memory was getting about 2900fps with the 150gn Speer Grand Slam. Very effective bullet but not really a long range option.

Yep, 150 SSTs in my 75 Finnlight with ADI2213sc are slow but accurate. Slower speed means no blowup a though.

Roger that. If I could get them up to 2700 with the same accuracy I'd call it done.

That's a fairly continuous string of 13 shots up top.

Ok. I was shooting a 24" barrel. Probably good for an extra 100fps or so.

son shot big red hind at really really faaarked up angle with 150 grn partition...she must have been playing twister or something at moment he fired. 200ish yards over book max with AR2213sc 20 and a bit" barrel
went through back hock, unzipped puku then into chest cavity faarking both lungs before breaking one shoulder and resting under skin, projectile looks like the brochure's and the hind went down within 50 yards.
always been a 130grn fan myself but that really impressed me.

I've run 150gr Berger VLD's in my Rem700 270WSM for a few years. MV 3100fps out of a factory 22" barrel. Puts holes in holes and makes deer proper dead from a long way away, up close too.

Getting 2950fps out of a 22"(Wby Mk5 Ultralight, kicks like a mule!) and 3000fps out of a 24"(Sako Finnbear, nice to shoot) with the 150SST, tight grouping and good clean killer up close and out far, 55gn 2209 in both.

Dunno about ADI's book max (49gn), no case head expansion, no primer pocket stretch, no excessive cratering in the primer, no stamping, extraction is slick - without a strain gauge you never can tell, but.......

ADI2217 or IMR7828 with a mag primer gets then going fast too.

150gr Nosler LRAB with 2213sc @ 2760fps in a Sako 75 Finnlight. Will try the 150gr SST next time when I run out of Noslers.
