I have been shooting the 270 for a bit over 20 years and tried a lot of different hand loaded projectiles from 130gn to the 161gn.
400m is about the limit of my shooting and I hunt mainly Sika, Reds and pigs. (I never used the 161gn Lapua Mega to that distance)
For the last few years I have been using 140gn Accubonds and am very happy with them but at the end of the day I have not come across a 'bad' bullet yet. Of the dozen or so I have loaded, if I hit the animal in the right place it would kill it pretty dam quickly. I would change loads because I thought the next one might be better, not because the last one was no good.
Of course the amount of damage a projectile causes varies depending on construction and weight so you have to decide what you want out of it. A bullet that holds together well at close range may not expand much at long range and one that expands at range may fragment more close up.
Personally I would rather kill an animal quickly and loose a bit of meat than loose an animal or have to follow it for a while.
If you choose any hunting projectile of 130gn or heavier for the 270 you shouldn't have any problems if you shoot them in the boiler room.
