Quite common with behind the shoulder shots. Hart or Lung shot animals can still make considerable distance before expiring.

You really need to hit bone to anchor them on the spot.

take point of aim forward to middle of shoulder and break bone..huge difference and you dont drive far without front wheels.
you may loose a bit of shoulder meat but far less chance of lost animal.
