    270 powder loads?

    Hi guys
I was hoping for some advice and ideas on powder loads for my father in laws 270?

we've got hornady sst 150 gr rounds and I'd probably prefer to use an ADI powder and something that could also be used with 308 or 7mm08?
the rifle is a savage axis stainless with a 22" barrel.

Not looking to push the velocity envelope, just a good medium load for shots out to 400m max, typically under 250m.

    Cheers
    Dan

What he said. 2209 for 130gn pills and below, 2213 for >130gn.

Again + with 2209, works very well in a browning X-Bolt I have loaded for. Haven't shot 150's though.

You will probably find 2208 is better for the 7-08/308

    For your .270win: 2209 for projectiles 130gr & under, 2213 for 150gr +

    For .308/7mm-08:
2208 is the best option for standard bullet weights, possibly 2206 for short barrels and semi's

    Cheers guys
I'm currently using 2208 for my 308 and 7mm08 so was more thinking of something that could be used for experimentation with smaller rounds (110gr 308)
not really worried about the cross compatibility though.

Looks like the 2213 will be the one to go to

    Cheers

    I have had good success with H335 and 125gn 308 in a 16" barrel.

It's a Hogdon powder. As far as I am aware ADI manufacture most of Hogdons powders and this is slightly faster than 2206H. Mark at Custom Cartridges is bound to have some.

I'm using 2208 with sierra 110s.in a BSA 270. It groups very well.
The best camouflage pattern is 'hold still and be quiet. '

In my Tikka 270 I use AR 2213 SC for both 130 & 150 gr loads. I use 59 grs 2213 SC with the 130 gr and 57 grs of same with the 150 gr. Velocity is 3060 fps with 130 gr, and 2800 fps for the 150 gr 22 inch barrel.
( Both Noslar bullets, 130gr Solid Base and 150 gr Partition)
According to Nick Harvey's Practical Reloading Manual Edition Six my 130gr load is Max and the 150 is a grain under. In the ADI loading book the 150 gr load is several grains over there Max so work your way up to the top loads.
AR 2213 SC isn't the best for 308 or 7mm/08 better off with something like AR 2208 or the like.

I use 2213sc with the same 150gn SST projectile in my Sako 75 .270
I dialed down the speed from atomic to save the brass and barrel.
No need to push the SSTs too fast.
I use Fed Match primers and annealed neck sized RP brass for average 0.4 MOA, best of 0.28 MOA.
    Welcome to Sako club.

    Hi dogmatix
Have you read Nathan fosters info as Kurlyman suggests, do you anneal the projectile? If not how do you find the sst at "not to fast" speeds?
Is not to fast below 2800fps?

    Cheers
    Dan
