I’ve just bought a Remington 700 with a factory titanium action in 270 which must be quite a rare thing. Will be reloading for it and wondering what the best projectile weight would be for it. Plenty of experienced 270 shooters here. I have calibres above and below so don’t need to try and push it. Any advice from real world experience gratefully received.

I used a lot of 130 sp when .270 didn’t have so many flash options then went to 140accubonds loading for a friends at the moment with 145eldx and Superformance seems to go well

140 grain hornady interlock. Great performance for a budget bullet. I ran 110 ttsx driven fast in my 695 which killed like hammer of thor inside 300. I run 145 eldx and 150 ssts now.
shot .270 for a number of years great caliber - only used factory and stuck to 150 grain for reds but 130 would be good for fallow and goats - shot a few goats with 150 and good but a lighter bullet would be better

Yeah those Ti actions are quite interesting, don't actually save much weight but are shiny in a 'bling' sort of way if you know what I mean. Been looking around for one for a while and never seen one come up. They don't tend to from what I can see, always have a ready line of people wanting to purchase them.

I have hunted with my 270W quite a bit. Almost exclusively shooting 130 gn bullets of one or other flavour. It's been great for kills out to 400 yds. Can't precisely remember every animal shot but I think I'm right in saying I never lost one with 130 gn bullets. Did miss the odd one though but very few.
Worked up a good load for the Hornady ELD-X 145 gn but haven't killed anything with it yet.
130 grain Hornady Interlock at 3100 fps will do anything you ever wanted from a .270 in a hunting rifle.
Not me as I haven't sorted my 270 after some initial disappointing results on paper, but after asking an old shooting mate who used one for years, he would only use 130s. Nothing recent but 70s thru to 2000s.
From his experience the 150s at the time were a bit tough on majority of animals.
130s did more damage all the time.
Again more suitable projectiles available now
I hunted with a 270 win for around 20 years and shot 130gn to 161gn projectiles and everything in between. I ended up settling on 140gn Accubonds for the last 5 or so years I had it. 24" barrel and 3000fps. It was a very good killer of reds, pigs and sika.
If they shoot well in your rifle, go with the 145gr eld-x. Great projectile up close or out long, very consistent performance. 2217 or 2213sc will get them going close to or a bit over 3000fps depending on rifle and barrel length etc
Really grateful for those taking the time to provide the benefit of their experience. Have some good info as a starting point to try some different loads now, cheers.

150 SST is a great bullet in the 270. The 130 sst is very explody.
bog std hornady cup n core 130 or 140 grn will kill everything you point it at and are usually boringly accurate with no effort at all to make them shoot...... if you want to go 150grn..grab nosler partitions..if there is animal they wont kill cleanly in NZ I dont know what it is.
that said today when I went for hunt I took 4x 170grn soft point round nose and 4x factory 130grn highlands soft point with lots of exposed lead..for a factory round they have really impressed me as they kill very well.
all depends on your target species.....
No personal experience. However I'm of the opinion that 130 gr is the sweet spot.
140 interlocks are absolutely nasty on deer
I’ve got a 270wsm cut to 18 inches so velocity wise it’s about the same as a 270win and have shot a fair few deer with it. Bullet weight doesn’t really matter, bullet construction does. So you want to match your bullet to your style of hunting. Smaller the game the faster the expansion, bigger the slower. Shoulder shooter a stouter bullet, lung shots more fragmentation. Whichever way you go you want to go shoot to make the best of it. No bullet does everything perfectly. For me personally I like plenty of penetration, so I prefer a 140 grained sierra tipped game king. I’ve had great results with them from close up to 450 meters plus. I’m sure some people wouldn’t like them, but as far as the eldx or the sst goes I wouldn’t give you a lump of goat shit for one.
Those 145 gr ELDX Bullets at just over 3000 fps are dynamite on deer, they do tend mess the shoulders up a bit though.
The ELDx driven hard send out splinters of jacket on impact but the core or a piece of it punched through. Good for behind the shoulder shooters.

Has anyone used copper bullets in 270Win ? @Tahr has reported on them for the WSM.
I like the 150gr sst in my 270wsm also 130gr ballistic tips went well on goats,fallow and chamois
110grn barnes didnt do it for me..they killed ok but did nothing a cup n core 130grn couldnt do better..all be it with less bruising and more penertration...Quote:

I the 1990s I used Winchester Fail Safe bullets in factory ammo. The worst bullet ever. They killed..but I learnt a fair bit about tracking!
145gr eldx and superformance & 2213, or RL22 if you want it to go real quick
Failsafes were a very average pill. Poor expansion, more like a fmj.

130 gr. Hornady Interlock work best in my .270 BSA Majestic. Have used them for over 30 years. Tried 140gr. but they didn't group well.
I believe the failsafe was designed for big game. As in bears and African plains game and such like. We don’t have anything like that in this country. Probably an excellent bullet for what it was designed for, just no use to us here. I would think if you turned up on safari with a fast expanding bullet like we use here you’d probably get told to sit in the car and not touch anything.
Oh I completely agree. In the 90s the average NZ hunter, myself included, didn't know much about this type of thing. You could really only get cup n core bullets....which of course were just called bullets. We were only just getting use to the new fangled Balistic Tips. Bonding sounded dodgy and monolithic had something to do with Stonehenge!

Really liked the 150 lrab when i shot the 270, dropped them at range. Up close they came apart abit but would always still exit
