Thread: 270 and superformance

The last load dev I did on this rifle wasn’t overly conclusive on anything. Was quite frustrating haha

so stop looking,load something and just use it LOL.
many a good load has been ruined by chronicgraph....
if load isnt popping primer hot and groups well enough for intended purpose,just go with it and stop looking....sometimes I believe folks overthink it too much.

Ready for the fun part

I've used 2213/4831 for a number of years, works great, nice and accurate. Then earlier this year I tried some 140 Interlocks pushed along by Superformance. Didn't do much load development - it is a 270! The Superformance loads are just under 200fps faster, just as accurate, with less pressure signs. So now I have a new go to load that is accurate and hits like the hammer of Thor, cant ask for more really.

trouble with the 140grn interlocts is they are just boring..... one shot=one dead deer,they all group close together with zero load developement...where is the fun in that???

Yes I have a very good load for the 270 at 57 grs SF and the 145 gr ELDX at 3100 fps and have shot a one hole group at 100yards ( most the time around an inch though) 83.5 mm OAL
I have heard the same stories about SF and some rifles just not getting the speed or accuracy were as others are the opposite.
I would think the 150 gr SST loaded with 55- 56 grs SF would be an ok start load and see how it goes.

Just had a quick look at Gunworks 270 projectiles. My favs the 140 AB's are sold out but plenty of others are not. If it is fussy, perhaps a cup and core soft point would be the best ? (Anything would be better than an SST IMO). Gunworks have 140 Partitions, which I admit I haven't tried but are probably all things to all people

Obviously not a fan of the SST? I’ve had good results with the 140 in an old rifle and my mates 270 with 140 sst performed superbly on a bull tahr last weekend, the perfect mushroom. I was under the impression the 150 was good too but read many bad things about the 130.

Go for it. If a 150sst won't kill 'em, nothing will.

From what I have seen of SST's they either make a huge mess and ruin a heap of meat or blow to pieces leaving no blood trail and an unfound wounded deer. To be honest I havent seen the 150's SST used in a 270, (are they hard enough to pass through ?) but anyway I think 150 is getting too heavy for a 270 anyway - if it is run fast to take advantage of the high BC bullets the recoil will be up there.

An accubond will always result in a dead found deer of any size in my experience

@Moa Hunter and I have been having an ongoing disagreement about SSTs, but I think it's horses for courses. I chose them for the high BC at a pretty decent price point. Tried 130 SSTs, 130 Berger VLDs and 150 ALBRs, but couldn't get the same balance of accuracy & velocity as I did with the 140s.

Sure, I've lost a couple of animals with them, but I can't discount shooter error and I've had a lot of good results on both tahr and reds. I wonder if the bad rap they get is at the lower end of the weight for caliber.

I started at 20 thou but mine is also very long in the throat, and the rounds just looked wrong to me with the projectiles sticking so far out of the neck! Tried 50 thou and it made no difference to accuracy and probably helped with pressure, so I stuck with that.

@257weatherby was it you who said the 150ssts are pretty good but to avoid the 130s like the plague?
