    270 win loads

Hey guys, a mate who uses my loading gear () bought a bulk lot of bullets off trademe that included the following.

130 grain Hornady soft points (already using these)
    130 grain Barnes Ttsx bt
140 grain Berger hybrid target vld

I don't think we want to try the Berger for hunting but I'm curious if anyone uses them in any capacity?

The Barnes I'm pretty keen to get a load sorted switch them, anyone using them in 270?

I predict you will use them and after maybe three animals decide they suck. The 110s are best in 270 but even they suck somewhat.they can not do anything the big std 130 cup n core doesn't do better EXCEPT penetrate or go through sticks first.

Oh yeah, I've heard mixed reviews re monos. Some people love them and won't use anything else, other are the opposite.

Tried the burgers, they just penciled in my experience. Talk to a few others who use them in various calibers also and same thing, wouldn't recommend.

The Barnes will be good but need high velocity and reasonable sized animals to expand.

The 130gr sp are a good all-rounder. Bit soft up close but do the job. Not the best BC for shooting long range though.

Off those three I'd go with 130gr hornday.

so ideal senario is duel load the barnes for up close and hornadies for anything else ......SHOULD be able to keep both loads reasonably similar component wise..the barnes will possibly need less powder..or not ...depending on how hot you intend to go....personally would go say 2 grains below what your putting in hornadies now and work up in half grain jumps and see how you feel about results

Yeah might have a play and see how fast the Barnes go, only got 15 of them haha

Ad for the Bergers, might just make some target practice rounds with them.

I use 110 TTSX in my 270 nasty bullets

Roger that, speed is king. I might just load the Barnes I have on hand and send them, see if they group. Then they won't be sitting on the shelf taunting me.

I'm the same as James, nothing has walked away from the 110 ttsx that I've used. But all my experience is sub 75m.

dont get me wrong..nothing walked away when I used them either..the bro in law got two chammy with single round too..BUT PERSONALLY I found them to be slower to kill the animal with chest shoulder shot than what a cup n core does....less meat damage is good but also equals less vital bit damage....cake/eating it too...

I’ve used the 130 grain ttsx at around 2950fps and have found them to be a very hard bullet. Have had some good results but you need pretty good shot placement, as in a double lung shot or break both shoulders. Very easy to put a bullet right through and not cause much blood loss, that means a runner and a slow death. Probably better to stick with the old cup and core bullet, nothing wrong with them.
