    270WSM with 145 ELDX and 2217

Hi first post, I have been using 150gr sst but decided to try some eldx 145 for longer range but can't get Min and Max data, with the 150gr sst I had pressure signs at 66.5grs 2217, best accuracy at 65.5grains. Rifle is a Sako 75 with quite a jump to the lands so load the projectile as far out as the magazine allows. Basically just need a safe starting load and an idea what max might be please

you dropping down 5 grns in weight so use your 150grn data as start point and assume it will be somewhere about middle of range..... with luck it will be accurate enough to just leave it at that....

Awesome caliber I have been using 145gn eldx in 270wsm for a while.
I did a very basic load developement using 2217 when I couldn't get any 2225
Below are my figures as tested in my rifle. Sako a7 270 wsm ogive length 2.377"

    69gn x3 3027, 3074, 3049 fps

    69.5gn x3 3061, 3087, 3077 fps (most accurate)

    70gn x3 3122, 3103, 3081 fps

    70.5gn x3 3097, 3075, 3097 fps

For me the 69.5gn load was most accurate but would have needed more finessing for what I consider acceptable and consistent accuracy.
Fortunately for me I was able to obtain some 2225 powder which is my go to for this cartridge and projectile.
As with any load advice start low and work up keeping an eye out for pressure.
I probably could have got a good load with 2217 if I had to but I never went any further due to obtaining a decent supply of my go to powder.

I will also add you may be able to seat your projectiles out further with the 75 action so this may effect your velocities and the amount of powder you can cram in there. My load certainly does everything I need it too without being anywhere near pressure.

    Great caliber.
I wouldn't be surprised if superformance or rl22 would be good as well

Thanks dannyb, I have saved your load data, I wondered about 2225, adi showed higher velocities with lower pressure than 2217, it certainly works for you, I have never been able to get groups as good as that with my sako, you have made me think about loading a few longer length rounds to see what that does for accuracy, just won't be able to use the magazine.

I wouldn't bother loading longer than mag length, but that's just me. Don't be afraid to try more jump (load them shorter) the factory eldx are loaded quite short and shoot exceptionally well in every rifle I've seen them tried in.
Load in groups of 3 and look for most consistent speed, then start messing with your seating depth.
You can tune any load with seating depth but consistent velocity is where you will find your best load.
Sorry if telling you how to suck eggs

Thanks Dannyb, I was trying to shorten the jump to lands, I will do as you suggest, don't know anyone that reloads so going on Nathan Foster's book and ytube, will look for closest group before worrying about seating depth

When you say closest I assume you mean least speed variation, if not that's what you should be doing before you worry about fiddling seating depth to tighten up your group size.

AND if you arent pissing around with a chronicgraph...and do infact mean tightest grouping ...carry on as you are......LOL. find tightest group from your samples with different powder charges...then play with seating depth for that charge weight....
its ok DannyB and myself have had this discussion many a time....one of these days we will get to having it around campfire with cold bevvy in hand....or in cold maimai waiting for the ducks to show up....
