    280 Ackley, N560 150gr

    Hey guys,

Anyone had experience with N560 and 150gr projectiles?

Haven't found much in the way of data on internet. Looking for an indication of start loads and potential velocity.

Vhitavouri manual shows N560 gives highest max velocity with 150gr for the 7x64 which i could use as a start point for the 280 AI, as its close to the .280 Remington.

I thought the 7x64 was a ballistic twin for the 280 so a good place to start.

You might be better off with a slower burning powder.

60gr Viht N165 gives me 2850-2900fps with 150gr Sierra Gamekings out of my 22.4" 270 Win.

I expect that you'd get 3000+ fps with 150gr. 7x64 loads would be a safe starting point IMO.

Here's a very handy calculator by a clever physicist over here:

Mine when last chrono'd was doing 3130 with 150 LRABs using 2209. Who knows how much more 560 will get you but it won't be nice on the barrel and certainly not as temp-stable..

I run N560 in my 280ai, around 60 -61 gns for 2980 fps with 162 AMAXs. You’ll north of 3000 fps with 150s for sure. Suggest you start a bit lower than above load & work up carefully watching for pressure. Don’t know your rifle but in mine I’d guess 61-62 gn would likely be the sweet spot with 150s.

The Vihtavouri reloading manual shows 60.3grs as maximum in the 7x64 with a 150gr Barnes TTSX, I was planning on starting at 60.0gr and working up from there.

I’d start lower given the Barnes Cu projectile which tend to hit pressure earlier. Also my loads are seated long, with Barnes you might not be able to do so
