    .280 AI starting loads.

Got a mate I work with just bought a .280 AI.
Wants me to set it up when I am home next.
He is a medium range shooter.
So all you blokes that reload .280 improved give me a starting load please.
Thinking 140-150 gr projectiles will be suffice for his type of hunting.
Rem 700 action with a TF ultra match 24" barrel.
I have always wanted this chambering so it will be a good chance to have a play.☺

I shot 140 grains in the 280 I had, pretty standard and good all round pill size, it was a good rifle and could stretch out to some decent distance.

Yup. But in .260 Very happy with it as well.
Good chance to play with a .280 improved sorting this one out for a mate.
Had a play with sneezes Cooper in .280AI. Really liked it even if it was a turn bolt

150gr Swift and 2209 goes well in mine. N165 was good with 168gr Berger but couldn't get it to shoot with the Swifts.

Interesting a powder change sorted the swifts for you.
It is my favorite projectile in 6.5 as well but my last 2 barrels would slit group them in the same pattern everytime.

Pissed about with N165 for ages wondering if it was me or the rifle but changed to 2209 and straight away nice triangle groups which tightened up at 55.0gr. I was determined to use the swift and had plenty of powder choices on hand.

With the N165 it would group a few into a nice group then throw completely random ones or sometimes 3" groups with no pattern to it at all. Made it hard to tell what the issue was.

Food for thought tho mate, cheers. I will try some other powders in my .260 and see if I can get them to shoot.
I only tried a couple different powders when testing.
They went awesome in my 6.5-06 on animals and accurate way out on steel.

    162amax at 100yards.
55.2 and 55.4 grains of 2213Sc. Third shot with Nosler brass.
Haven't yet chronoed so don't know what speed. Will check speeds before I possibly try hotter. This accuracy is fine for me. Best being about 0.5".
140 needs to go above 62.5 using 2213 to tighten groups to below 1". Using 140 Partitions.

my 7x64 likes 2217 best, 2213sc ok too but grps not as tight as 2217 and 2209 was not giving good grps at all.

    Chronoed the .280 this afternoon.

    140@ 63gns of 2213 = (3060-3106fps).

    162@ 55.5 of 2213 =
(2610-2650). I wondered why she was such a pussy cat.
