    284 load progress

    Righto

So did a ladder with the new shillen barrel a few weeks ago.

Did 54.5 up to 56.5gr of Superformance running the 162gr eld m. Then did another 2 at 56.8 and 57.1gr.

Found pressure at 56.8gr which is the old charge for my TMK load out of the old barrel.

So went out today and set chrony up.

    Did 3 groups.

One at 56.2,56.4 and lastly 56.6gr

Bear in mind this is Virgin Lapua brass and only rounds 12-24 out of this barrel.

    I'm pretty bloody happy.

54.4gr gave 2760fps and 2770fps. The third round the chrony gave a screwy reading.

So went and did the natural thing and figured the load was about 3.5inches high at 100 so went and fired 2 rounds at the 8" gong at 620y. Dialed about 10 MOA.

1 hit and 1 Mike as it was blowing pretty hard.

So yeah I'm pretty stoked with this shillen barrelName: 20230930_155632.jpg

    Cheers.

Well we have gongs at 270, 470,570 and 620y so why not punch the numbers and go full Monty? My 308 makes that same gong sing stupidly easy so why not christen the new barrel?

Iv been trying some one shot kills at 500-600yds on paper this winter.Got the dailing pretty correct, just gota get my shooting better.Would kill a deer but not little groups like yrs at 620yds.Standard tika 308,22'' barrel firing Hornady 165gr ssts. All good fun tho.If you dont practice you wont know how yr shooting at distance is going.

The way I see it is quite simplistic.

If I can ring that gong at 620y with a perfect rest.

I can slot a deer at 400y whilst out in the field to allow for less favorable shooting conditions.

450yds no problem on deer with a pack rest, north west wind can be the problem. Its interesting seeing how much drift you get at 400yds with a good cross wind at the range.A good nor west blast will take you the length of the deer at 400yds.

Yep our range has a natural wind tunnel running up the guts of it.

So the wind can hit the faces on the left, swirl and do really wacky shit. I see it as keeping ya honest !
