284 Win 140 gr Berger VLD RL 17 and RL 26

    Hey guys,

I am trying to go the lighter route on my 284. I have got some bergers for it. Does anyone have any load data for 140 gr VLD using Reloader 17?

ALSO! Big ask but has anyone tried RL 26 on the 140's or am I better off holding onto it for some bigger projectiles.....Or Can anyone run some s&^T through quick load for me? Looked at buying it tonight but lack the coinage at the moment!

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    Cheers Bois.

    Hi mate,

with the 140vld I worked up to 53 grains of RL17 in a norma case and fed 210 primer in mine.

as usual work up though. I've heard of some guys getting a good bit more than 53gr of RL17 before any pressure signs.

I'll try and find my data, but I used RL17 when I first got my .284. I also used the 140gn VLD and they were being pushed at 3040fps. I on'y stopped using that as a load due to RL17 being to hard to get hold of here.

I have briefly played with Rel 17 in my 284. Not the 140 VLD though sorry. Hit pressure at 52gr with the 162 ELD-X and got up to 54gr with the 162 ELD-M (didn't try any higher). ELD-X shot crap but the M is looking pretty promising. Cant give exact OAL as I don't have my book but it is throated long and the ELD-M was as far out in the neck as I would want it.

    Hi all
I am another new owner of a 284 and will be trying 2209, 2213SC, IMR4831, and RE17 with 150 grain projectiles. I am waiting for some advice from Vahtavouri but not holding my breath as they said they will publish some data next year. I have N160 and N560 which both should work with 150-165 grain projectiles. I'll let you know how I go. I am using ELD-X and Sierra MKs in the test loads. Will also try some Hornady 154 round nose for bush bashing!

    Cheers

Hey another convert Great choice. 2209 (for 140 - 150gn pills) or RL7 or Superformance are my go to's for 284. 150 gn ELDx or 160 TMK's are both brilliant choices for the 284

My .284 Win does 2740 fps in a 22” barrel with 58 grains of AR2213sc and 162 ELD-X. It’s throated a bit long and I’m using necked up 6.5-.284 Lapua brass neck turned to 14 thou’ and Fed 210 GMM primers. 5 shot ES was 6 fps on the last range session.

Easy load dev with 2213sc for me.

    Hi all
Got to the range on Sat with my two boys (12 & 10) who spent the morning shooting MOA groups at 100m with a new CZ 17 HMR that her majesty's government recently funded, these little shooters are awesome getting the boys to shoot at some extended range, easily will take rabbits!. The 284 went great with (as expected) the 150 ELD X doing just on 3000 fps with RE 17 out of 20" barrel and just on an inch group. Nice to shoot and no excessive primer flattening or web expansion, so will now start to refine with powder weight and seating depth. I still have some Sierra MK (150 BTHP) to try as well. Very happy and will update as I get more range testing done. I have evolved into using the heavier projectiles so might also try some 160ish options as well.

    Cheers

    Hi all
Had another range session and have concluded that RE 17 is definitely 125-150 fps faster than 2209, 2213, IMR4831 with 150 grain projectiles. Getting 3000 fps out of 20" barrel with 53 grains of RE17, and 2875 with the others. For those of you who have 284s and use RE 17 do you experience any of the temperature variations that I have read about on the WWW. I read some shooters are experiencing 100 fps variations with only 15*F change in temp, this could easily happen going from sunny temperate Palmerston North to the Kawekas. I will now try and refine a good hunting load with finer powder graduations and seating depth, reloading is such goos fun.

Just use r16, it’s a touch faster burn rate than R17 but temp stable.
