    30 06

Anybody running the, 178gr eld-X,165gr sst, or 165gr Game changer in the 30 06?

I had a very accurate, with cheaper factory ammo [Winchester 150gr sp] in a Remington Bdl, so naturally I mucked with it and turned it into someting else

I then bought a Husky 1600 in 30 06 to replace it with as my 1600 in 9.3 shoots sub moa easily, again, naturally the new 1600 does not fancy the factory Winchester, of which, naturally, I bought heaps of packets for when the Remington was going. 9
Sure the Husky it's hunting accuracy either side of of 1.5 for three shots with that ammo but you know......

So while the Remington was still going I neck sized heaps of once fire cases for Ron and fuck me days when tried them in the Husky I had the most unbelievable luck. yep
    They wouldn't fit.

Borrowed a F/L sizer [ previously only had a Neck and Seater] from Blue Cod, Thanks, loaded 4 each for a ladder of 165 sst and 178 ELD-X
not interested in 150 155 gr etc, going to run them with the V3 attacheed to the barrel for speed and as it will be attached to all maybe an indication of where to start
All loads at COAL.All run through the Husky action easily, Now

In all honesty I'd have tried Sierra Gk's or tipped or Hornady BTSP if I could find any but most folk seem to like the fancy tip and thats what was available for me.

Any one else working on a 30 06.

    As an aside
I've had the Husky action and first 2" of barrel professionally bedded and barrel floated, the Plastic Butt plate replaced out for a Limbsaver, the trigger lightened and proper sling swivels attached, eg can attach a bi pod.

I use 59 gns 2209 behind either the 165 SST or the 165 SGK for 2896fps, in my Husky 30-06. And the SST's perform well, accurate and kill shit.

    Thank you .
I've loaded 2208 with the lighter bullet and 2209 with the 178gr, I may need to change that.

I use 58 grs of Superformance with the 178 gr ELD X in my Ruger American, accurate enough at around an inch at 100 yds, Average velocity was 2781 fps (3 shots)

Not 30-06 but its theoretical ballistic twin I ran the 178 amax (soposidly the eldm is the same) at 2975fps and shot a lot of reds with it, everything dropped on the spot nothing walked even out 500y. Even had a unintentional 2 for 1 at around 350y and both of them dropped on the spot too.
Downside is they were very messy,a shoulder shot on a big animal could bruise all the way back to the hind quarters, meat was still fine but blood between all the membranes meaning lots of trimming.

Tried 150gmx for a more meat freindly round for when it was possible to recover whole animal but it was not much better TBH

168 nosler bt are a great 30 cal bullet. Accurate and effective.
Soft bullets do destroy meat though. I just accept it as a consequence of getting a good blood trail and quick kill.

In the past I wouldn’t have posted a pic like this but I think too many people are removed from reality and pc has gone over the top. Name: 032CD6CA-1753-4AB8-964F-2E1BDBD8F4FC.jpeg

Iv shot everything thru my Shilen barreled Sako 85, some better than others.
    Federal Fusion most accurate.
Hornady Precision Hunter ELDX 178gr the worst.

Just ordered 5 boxes of Sako Gamehead Pro 165gr with the Sierra Gamechanger projectile. We'll see how that goes.

Found the same no issues with them.
3 of us were using them in 30-06.
    I reloaded for all 3.
    Same load.

I ran 178 A-Max pushed by RE22 in my Remington in the US. ELD-M is just an A-Max with a new Gucci tip.
Can’t recall how much powder I used now, but it was pretty temp sensitive. Still, never shot a whitetail at anything over 60 yards so it made no difference.

Run the Sierra game king 165 hpbt in mine (ph safari) Did some loads with 2206h as I had used that successfully in a 308. 46 grains, 2790 fps not that fast but accurate. If I really wanted I could get some slower powder to up the speed but for me speed is secondary as I've not shot anything over 400 yds with it yet, and a drop chart is easy to do.

Ive been running 178gr ELD-X for a while now and they go great. I didnt do any load development because the 1st load of 57gr AR2209 at 2770fps was a winner. It shoots one inch groups at 300yds if i do my bit right and 2.5 inch at 500yds if i really do my bit right.
I used a lot of 165gr projectiles when i 1st got the 30/06 and they were good on the japs but the 180-178 grainers were better in the wind and any sort of range stretching.
Another good one was the 180gr SST which seemed to work on the reds better. The ELD-Xs inter-lock ring has been moved forward to a midpoint and they often expand passed it causing core separation unlike the SSTs that have the old low inter-lock ring. No ELD-X shot deer knew this though.

I tried the edlx 178 today, didn't get much joy with my ladder all over the place, used from 54 to 55.5 gr of 2209 and the primer was very flat and filled the pocket right up at 55.5 @2680, 24" barrel, V3 chrony.

    54.5 was 2628
    55 was 2670
55.5gn, which is a tad over Hornady max was 2680 and the afore mentioned flat primer
Was 27 degrees today out there though.
