From memory I used 56.5 gr 2209 with a 165 nosler ballistic tip. Went up to 58gr with no problems but was more accurate at 56.5gr

Ahh the mighty 3006. Bought a second hand Mauser 98 chambered in 3006 many years ago for $300, since then it has been used and abused and taken a fair few animals. It has since been retired as my backup gun. Over the years i have worked up a number of accurate loads for it. Here are a couple of my go to loads for it.

    53gr 2206H Barnes 130gr TTSX 3020ft/s
    56.5gr H414 Sierra 165gr HPBT GK 2750ft/s
    51gr 2206H Hornady 150gr Interlock .. recent load not chono'd yet
55.5gr 2209 Berger 190gr Hunting VLD 2575ft/s......very accurate used to gong shoot out to 900m

    Hope this helps.

57.5gns of what? Also, it may only be a sweet spot in your rifle and not necessarily anyone else's rifle. Just something to consider.

    Hi
I recently purchased an experienced Parker Hale 30 06 and I am using Hornady 150 SSTs and 60 grains of 2209. It is shooting good sub MOA groups with no pressure issues and they are doing 2850 over the chrony. I put a limbsaver on the butt and had to install a low swing safety to allow for a scope to be mounted and is a joy to use. I will shorten the barrel and put a sonic reduction barrel weight on it (soon) which should also help with the accuracy and comfort. Nathan Foster rates the Hornady 150 SST as an excellent dispatcher of game and I have to agree with him, they work and are very affordable. I will be taking it for a walk tomorrow and hope to blood it. I am also keen to try projectiles in the 165-8 range as they seem to be the optimum for BC and efficiency.
    Cheers

    Absolutely all usual caveats apply.

Barrel length plays an important part in powder choice. I use 61.2 grains of ADI 2213SC behind a Lapua Scenar 167 grain in my 26" long-range rifle, giving 2900 fps and sub-MOA groups. Shorter barrels need a faster burning powder.

    Hi Marky
Yes I mean a suppressor, tomorrow will be all noise if we let it loose, not used to that nowadays as all my other canons have suppressors on them. Will let you know how it goes.
    Regards
