Greetings All,
I see that Hornady give a minimum twist of 1 in 9 inches for that projectile. There would not be that many factory rifles with twists that fast.
Regards Grandpamac.
250 grain round nose used to be available, they were evidently much liked for water buffalo and other big things. Funnily enough the 3006 started out with a 1:10 and I never figured out why they slowed it down for the 308.
Greetings All,
On the matter of twists in .308 rifles I believe that the military used a 1 in 12 inch twist due to the light projectile when they developed the 7.62 x 51 in the late 1940's and early 1950's and some commercial manufacturers but by no means all followed suit. My old Remington .308 has a 10 twist.
1952 was a different place where few if any had a range finder and practically no projectile had a boat tail. Poor quality projectiles at the time often shot better in slow twist barrels (no longer a problem today) and lighter projectiles at higher velocity flattened trajectory for longer point blank ranges. It was a different time. The average Nimrod from 1952 would be gob smacked with the kit available today. An average week end hunter in NZ would have had an iron sighted .303.
Regards Grandpamac.
It’s Hornady leading the market again, like they did with Creedmoor.
Watch this space, pretty soon .30 cal magnums with fast twist barrels will be the new normal.
Just...say...the...word
Who’s keen to load me some ? 1/8 twist bergara? Haha
There are some browning x bolts in 300prc available in the country with fast twist barrels for those babies ;-) I had three in my hands in the last few weeks
I've always liked Hornady bullets.
