For those running a 300 win mag
I'd like to know what sort of speeds you are getting with accurate loads from the 208gr amax and anywhere from the 185 to 210 Berger.
Also what powder/s have you found to be best
thanks

Nobody at all loading these bullets out there:)
178 gr a-max, 68 gr of 4350 hogdon, federal standard primers. Was getting arround 3000ft/s. Won a few f-class competitions with that load.
@Rushy uses 208gr amax in his 300winmag and gets 2950 ish? You could ask him what the load is but he probably has no idea. Is pretty accurate though.
I use them in my 308 and they go very well.
@jakewire PM @AndrewH. He loads for me and will know all the detail. Like Nibblet says I know Jack Shit as I am just the trigger man. Andrew is on his way back from the the land of the dress wearing haggis eaters but he should respond fairly early in the next week. I thought they were going quite a bit slower than that.
Great , thanks Guys that's given me something to go on with
I shall pm AndrewH , cheers Rushy
I thought that's roughly what they were going along at? Not sure thought but my 308 does 2530 so it sounds like it should be about right
An accurate 2700ish+ with the 208 amax would be good .
2700 sounds quite slow, I'm sure I was getting 2700 + with my 30:06AI and 2209
In 28 inche barrel , 1-10 twist 5R , getting 2874fps , 208gr Amax , 77.5gr of ADI 2217 , Fed mag match primers .
180grn Nosler BT, 75.5grns R22, 2965fps. 24 inch barrel.
opps , my load is not standard lenght , its loaded long in OAL ,
Hi there been using 208 amax for quite a while , started using RL 22 upto 73 grains with Fedral magnum primers and Win cases loads went Ok around the 2850 mark . Then got onto AR2225 and things speed up alot , over 3000 fps.Used the ADI book loads but found that they were a bit hot with sticky bolt , I then switched to Large rifle Fedral primers and found the loads were just as quick with out the pressure. Rifle now shoots 1/2 moa and better
Cheers
Germe
208 amax doing 3000 fps out of a 300 wm? You got to be joking?
That would have to be an extremely hot barrel burning load.
Whats the point in stressing the living daylights out your barrel and brass?
My advice would be to back off the pressures and simply dial a click or two more.
I'm using the 208g A-Max, have found them quite good out to 400M, (max range I've had a change at) not sure of the figures but by the ADI book on 2213SC...am looking at working up a load of Sierra 210 MK...with the ADI 2225, I hear it is very good
Might try the primer change as I tend to get a sticky bolt like @Germe has said, still learning about this gun but she is going good so far...
I have the 208 amax at 2720 t3 wsm
Shoot a hind the other morning at 120y and it broke both shoulders and exited in two bits
I run the 208 A-MAX in my 30-338 at 3150fps x 102gn adi2225 in a SSRNZ single shot(pressure signs started at 3300fps). Shoots under 1/2", have shot 1 1/4" at 300mtr.
Just about finished my 5th packet of bullets and barrel still scrubs up really well (checking with bore scope).
Best hunting shots were at 890yds 5 goats in five consecutive shots, with serious damage even at that range.
Are the bc's a lot higher? Seems a heavy round for the 308, for game.

208's in the 300wm are good and reliable on venison , imo can bruise the hell outta the meat under 400 tho . 210 vld's been been ok no complaints yet ,im working up hybrid 215 atm haven't put one in meat yet , have seen where others speak highly of the 215 hybrid on game so time will tell ..
215 hybrid @ 2920fps with79 grains of 2225 26 inch barrel, Kills very well.
210 Sierra match King adi 2225 usually get around 2850 fps
215 Berger Hybrid with 74grains of 2217 with Norma brass, getting 2870 FPS from a 26 inch barrel. I think I must have a fairly tight chamber as I started to get pressure signs about 1 grain below the Book max.
I found I got similar speeds with the 215 Hybrid and the 208 AMAX, apparently it has something to do with the short bearing surface.
I've only shot one animal with the Hybrid but it seemed to do the job, it left a pretty decent exit hole. (Tahr at around 600m)
76.5 gr 2217, 208 amax, Nosler brass, 3.608 aol and Winchester magnum primers, I normally use Federal primers but found that the Winchester ones worked better this time after loading with both, 2885 fps
Interesting read, in my 7mm RM I get 2917 FPS, with R22 - I'm wondering if I should try 2225 for more speed?
Sorry, a bit off topic...
2225 gave better velocity in my 7rm than 2225 with 160s
