300 Blackout loading with Frangible ammo

Hi and a Happy xmas whishes to you all
having fun with the 300 blackout having just fitted a new suppressor from FSS
i got into reloading different weights one is the 309 cal 90grain XTP projectiles
4.5 grain Trailboss is too slow and low [super quiet though ] 5.5 grain is a full case
8.0 grain AS50N is rather fast [1/2 flattened primers ] and a healthy echo up the valley
i was thinking of trying some 308 cal Frangible projectiles
Has anybody looked down this Wabbit hole
    Cheers to all

Not frangible, but 125gn cast hollow points, 5 gn of trail boss, 16" barrel. Seating depth makes a big difference in speed in the small cases.
Cast soft these work well on water bottles, not tested on animals.
Back when I had a bad gun, I tried as50 with 230gn cast, very quiet, but not enough gas to cycle the action.

Belmont loaded frangible 223 and I think 308 around 4 or 5 years ago. It wasn't subsonic but more intended for pest control. The 223 was superb for hares and small goats head shots mandatory to drop anything bigger though. If I recall it was 25c a round. And 62 grain sp 45c happy days

    Hi M. Henry
yes i used and pulled the Belmont 223 subsonic ammo apart it had 4.10 grains of Trail Boss
the Frangible 223 goes like a rocket @ 3240 f/s ,never got around to testing the 308 stuff
Belmont is going through hard times and dosent have many stock options at the moment
    Cheers for your info

If your 5.5grn full case still not enough oomph and still too slow.maybe try magnum primers?? I know I had to go to stupidly light charge in the x39 to not get sonic crack using them.no issue with std primers.
    75/15/10 black powder matters

    Cheers M. Duck
    90 grain XTP x 4.5 grain T.B. was very low @ 100m
as above x 4.5 grain T.B. was close to the target @ 50m
    as above x 5.5 grain T.B. was 40mm high @ 50m but still subsonic
i dont have magnum small rifle but will try the magnum pistol just to check
the other powders @ hand are finer and i can change the amount in the case a lot more
    Regards

Would the logic not dictate that you find the best load for your rifle in therm of speed and group size and then zero your scope for that load? Or are you trying to dual load for that rifle while trying to keep a zero on another load?

    Hi Friwi
    Yes youre right
i have zeroed the scope to work for factory190 & 208 grain subsonic ammo
and was just testing the patterns and flight paths of lighter weight subsonic /and HV ammo
and if this worked out i could use the same scope setting for both loads well in good
Thinking the lighter loads i could use for wabbits etc
i have found the lighter projectiles on top of smaller charges flight path drop rather different to the factory loads ..
    Thanks for your input Mate

This could be what you need .310" 130 grain HP plain based cast soft,
bought for my .300 blackout to use on rabbits and possums as I don't have a .22RF

    Hi All
i found some 30 carbine 100 grain flat base very much like Tokoroa cast but copper covered
i tried it on top of 5.0 grain AR 2205 it was indeed very quiet and on the mark @ 50m but in my excitement of a good group hahaa
i forgot to put the pointy bit up to get the powder back by the primer [not much in the 300 case by volume ] and i got a squid BOOGER
i have usually usually taped these out with a cleaning rod but the barrel liked the projectile better ....
Rang my Good Mate FSS and Darren shared a great tip on how to remove the squid ....you will have to ask him that sorry
What i have noticed in reloading that Lill gun is rather loud compared to other powders tis a pity as i have lots
I havent done enough posts to get on Buy/sell so if Tokoroa Cast could get intouch directly i would like a 100 x 130gn of the above post Please

    Cheers to all

I've got some good groups at 50m shooting the 90 grain XTP in my 16" 308 with 4.5gr of AS50n, no fillers (see pic). Hasn't seemed to be position sensitive. You might try that instead of Trailboss to get the speeds up a bit if you are running out of room with Trailboss? In my rifle I found 5.5gr was supersonic with the XTP, also shoots well 165gr RNFP with 6.5gr AS50n.

But yes, drop is alot compared to the 168gr Amax its sighted in for, but I've got a scope with mil-dot markings at a wee printed label stuck to the scope to remind me what "dot" I use for the sub loads at 50, 75 and 100m.
