    300 win mag

    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone here reloads for the 300 win mag and if so any tips, hints and recommendations please?

Keen to hear peoples thoughts on Brass, dies, powders and projectiles. The rifle will be mainly used for long range target shooting and eventually long range hunting.

    Cheers

    Have a read of this.

    .300 Winchester Magnum

PS, I'm loading 180gn SSTs. ADI 2213sc, FC brass neck sized and CCI Magnum primers seated to fit mag.

Use to shoot 178 gr amax, with 68 gr of hogdon 4350 in Norma cases.
But every barrel is different so you will have to try a few brands to see what work best in your gun.

The rifle is a remington 700 Long range with 26" heavy barrel and a Hardy can on it. Interesting you are using H4350, thats equivalent to AR2209 isn't it? What length is your barrel?

I was looking at the ADI site and after reading Nathan Fosters site I was hoping the 208gr A-max might be the go with AR2217?

Also for resizing whats the crack? As it headspaces off the belt a lot of people mention setting up your dies so it headspaces off the shoulder and the belt? As headspacing off the belt isnt the most accurate. How would I achieve this? I was going to get a set of the Lee deluxe dies so I can neck size most of the time.

I'm running a Rem 700 in 300 Win. The load I have settled with for now is a 208 Amax with 78g of 2217. Seated at mag length (93mm COAL) Gives me 2850fps. It will go faster, but that's where I'm getting the best groups, .75 moa.
I also tried 2213, From memory 62gr gave me the same speed and group size.

I have just got a box of 190gr Nosler competition pills. it will be interesting to see what they perform like. My 6.5's love the 140gr ones, and they seem to perform the same as a Amax on game.

Great article... miss my .300wm. Accurate and an absolutely spectacular killer on everything, only eclipsed by the .338 version which is more expensive to load for.

While my rifle was a savage sporter it loved lapua D46s FMJ bullets Products - Lapua
Costly but well and truly sub moa for the odd long range target shooting. For hunting I liked 180gr Nosler ballistic tips which also shot sub moa (just).

Nothing wrong with Lee neck sizing dies, they save your brass.

Yeah I cant wait to get some load development done! Desperately searching for brass at the moment though, is Hornady brass any good? Used it for .223 and it seems fine.

I can't help you Sparky1000, @AndrewH loads for my 300. I am just the bugger that has all the fun pulling the trigger.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
