    300 win mag loads

Finally gona get around to the 300wm was thinking either 200eldx or 208eldm adi says ar2225 gets good speed, guns a heavey barreled howa m1500
was thinking mostly a gong load but maybe some lazy paddock shooting on fallow out to 500m. Keen to hear what has worked well for others.

    208 ELD-M.
    77.6 grains of 2217.
    3.5” OAL.
    Nosler Custom brass.
    2980 fps from a 26” barrel.

2217 has very little temp sensitivity.

read that non mag primers are best in 300wm with heavier bullets in some peoples opinion, due to a slower burn.
Has anyone seen evidence of this?
Would be handy to use the fed 210 i already have.

I would have said the opposite as mag primers are usually recommend for heavy charges of slow burning powder.
I use magnum in all my rifles as I can't be bothered having two different ones.

Being a match bullet is what makes it so good at longer ranges and lower velocities than controlled expansion bullets can cope with. No problems at closer ranges too, but can be messy.

    I use 79.6 gr of 2217 over a 208ELDm. 2925fps from a 24inch barrel.
Shot deer and pigs from 60-500y. The deer ive shot from 60 to 200m in the shoulder there were no exits, lots of damage as Spitfire said. Did get enough penetration though as there were fragments in the skin on the far shoulder. Shot a couple stags at 400 and 500 yards and both shots exited with fairly decent exit wounds.

Even if they do break up at close range the fragments are probably bigger than a .223 bullet anyway.
300CALMAN, takbok and Spitfire like this.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Good on you for ignoring him. He prolly wanted to sell you some far more expensive Accubond LR or similar.

ELD-Ms are bloody awesome at medium to long range and the 208s are big enough to kill well close up too.

    Enjoy.

I measured the lands on the howa coal 3.715 the mag only holds 3.5 and adi lists 3.420 thats nearly 0.300 jump can this be right?
