Thread: 300wsm- 20/22 inch Tikka with 178 eldx

morena- I have searched and read what i can find in here for this combo ^

I know @Monk uses RL17 in his 20 inch to great effect.



I have plenty RL26- but im thinking it'll be too slow for 20/22 inch barrel- wont burn quick enough.
I know Alliant 17-19-23-26 supply is inconsistent at best.

Who uses what powder for this combo plse?

I've been reading up on this exact thing, mine will be 20" bbl. I'm gonna try rl17 and 2209. From what I can find @Smiddy results with 2209 are really good.

I have just been through this loading for a mates rifle which is a 20" shooting 178 ELDM I tried Hodgdon superprofrmance and RL26.
I only kept the info from the finished loads
Hodgdon superprofrmance load
67.2grn @2961fps
RL26 69.3grn @2964 they both shot as well as each other but I went for the Hodgdon superprofrmance so I didn't use up all my RL26.
So I didn't keep the lader test but this wasn't the top load that the rifle would handle.

@ANTSMAN I've never had issues getting Re 17 in Welly area. If you don't have a need for Re26 anymore, almost guarantee someone would swap you Re17 for it.

I can give you a bit of R17 for a few loads to try if you don't want to buy a whole canister. Say, enough for 6 300 WSM loads? Could leave it down in my mail box.

Given as a comparison, you should get a bit faster with the 178g.
