    308 /130g pills/2206h question

Went to start some load developement for 308 piggy length barrel.
    130g sp hornady pills.
    2206h powder.
    Book max is 49g.
    Zeroed scales.
    Weighed 47g 2206h.
    Tipped into case.
    Fills to halfway up neck.

    Tried trickling and tapping.
Still halfway up the length of the neck.
Tried book minimum 45g. Same thing.

    Wtf. Any clues?
Never had this happen with 708.308.6.5.243.......

    Is this powder overly bulky?

Do i have the numbers wrong?

Do i not actually have 2206h in the 2206h labeled tub?

748 is compressed with 50grns...good load behind 125grn pill but!!!!.
2206 is bulky by comparison but plurry good powder.
748 at $45 per lb from gunworks is just too cheap to go past and the 748 metres better out of thrower than chunky 2206.

I had the same happen to me with the 7mm RM & to make matters worse a mate did the load development for me & when i shook the bullets you could hear powder moving inside but when I did my own loads exact same brew ..compressed loads !! & I triple checked to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong , I wondered if the temperature could effect the powder , loading in a nice warm house vs a cold garage or is that just silly talk ? from memory the powder was from a different batch could that be it ?

tap side of case half a dozen times and it will help settle powder down a tad.

I use a drop tube on my 358 to get all the powder in. Just a piece of brass tube about 300mm long and flare the end to fit over the case mouth.

Drop tube is the way to go. I use 49 grains 2206H in my .308 16" Tikka with 125 gr Nosler Accubonds. You need to trickle powder in slowly and it stacks well in case so you should se the level lower in the neck. My load gives me 2900 fps with no pressure signs and is accurate.

@BSA270 what kind of groupings are you getting with that? I am just starting out and my first load is going to be with 165gr sierra HPBT and 2208 powder (have the same rifle set up as you) for a solid round that can smash animals. I want to make up a smaller faster round as well so your one is something i will try.
