Thread: 308 165 SST 16" barrel

Hey fellas

Looking at doing a load up for a wee tikka with 16" barrel
What powder would be the best with the heavier pill and short barrel?
I have 2208, 2206H, and H335

Have used the H335 in a short barrelled 308 before but just with 130g pills
Would it be better than the others ?

I am getting 2520 fps from a 16" AR10 with 168 A max, PMC brass and 41.8gr 8208XBR

No I havent but 2208 worked well with 168amax so probably a good place to start....Id think 2206h a little quick burning to get the best from that weight bullet but could be wrong.

was running 178s at 2420 out of 16in 308.................. ill find the powder if you want, cant recall what it was

Getting 2650 with 2206h and 165 bts in 16". Nice safe load

Was running 2206h behind 175smk in a 16” AR, 2450. Very accurate and no pressure.

46.2 of 2208 for 2678 fps 165 nosler

2206H worked great in my old 308 carbine, pushing 162 BT'S and my mates current 308.

Boaraxa is running a 18" barrel thou… but as accurate it can get…

46gr 2208 sierra GK HPBT 165s 3 shot avg last night was 2546 (lowest 2482, highest 2624) out of a 16.5" tikka. Zero pressure signs and shoots about half MOA. Need to shoot some more and work out why such a variance in speed but cold be a good backup load for ya.
