    308 Ball Ammo

    Gidday Folks

Does anyone have an opinion (preferably based on some experience but all thoughts welcome!) on which is the most reliably accurate ball ammo for the 308 ??

I probably should try a bunch of different stuff but I really just want to get shooting this rifle (Lithgow LA102) without having to bugger about too much . . . . so not looking for an FTR standard, just consistent . . .

I doubt any standard ball ammo would give any indication of how accurate your LA102 is .308 ball is machine-gun ammo You would be better off buying any cheap sporting ammo.

Yeah I don't think there's any shortcuts. Buy a pack of each brand /scrounge a handful of each and make an afternoon of it.

Nah - was just offered a demon deal on bulk 7.62x51 ball ammo with a choice of 4 different types. Seems that the projectiles are the main source of variance with it, pulling and replacing with a commercial proj makes a big improvement. I will probably do that for a few rounds for hunting but not bother for practice/paper punching.

Having said that I do go to the occasional SR shoot and usually use a SMLE, but it seems people are shooting commercial rifles in these matches too so maybe the Lithgow might get a "trot" out.

Back in the day when my rifle club had a supply of milsurp ammo for visitors the Singaporean ammo was reasonable along with MEN. Would they give good results in your rifle - who knows? I don't know what is available nowadays.

And as I said it was ammo for visitors. None of the members ever used it as they all reloaded.

I wouldn't be bothered pissing around with milsurp in a rifle of reasonable quality like your Lithgow.
