If inside 200 have a look at the Speer 130 hollow point.
Used it exclusively when I carted a .308

Sounds explosive R93?
try 150 corelokt cheap but deadly under 300m.
165 gn Speer BTSP are cheap and effective.
Used 125gr nosler BT for a while, seemed to kill well.
Ahhh the beauty of a 308 so versatile
Not from memory. Had them going quite fast as well. 3050ish iirc out of a 22inch barrel. Those speeds were over a shooting chrony when I had one, so may not be that precise by today's standards. They were pretty accurate as well.
Think I still have some if you want a few to test.

Barnes 130ttsx is my 0-400 load, I've used the exact same load in three .308's and all shot very well
gamekings mate hit like thors hammer
The Barnes 130gr is a versatile bullet. Expensive but very good, I've also found it to be pretty accurate. Should shoot pretty flat out to 300.
I loved the 165gr Hornady SP. A plain Jane bullet, but accurate in all rifles I've tried it in and very good for everything out to 250. Will kill out further of course but you will need to compensate for bullet drop. Can be relied upon to kill anything in NZ, basically this is traditional .308 performance and a very cheap bullet too.
Thanks guys
Nothing wrong with these for the stated job:
165gr flat base .308 SP projectiles (163) | Trade Me
If its a shortened barrel bush pig you might find this of interest ?

I use a lot of the 125 accubonds in my 16" barreled 308.
Does the job on reds with no issues and I expect it will be good for sika also
I used the 125 BTs for a short time in the 90's in my MLR and wasn't impressed with them. Too soft (they could be quite different now though). Also used the 125 ABs in my 16" T3 for a number of years on Reds, pigs and Sika. I never had any issues with them. They were accurate and good killers out to 150m (the furthest I shot with them). Now using plain old 165gn Speer BTSPs and they do the same job. Cheap and reliable. I have decided that for the short range I use that rifle for I don't need anything fancy and as long as the projectile isn't too hard they will get the job done.
I have shot a fair fewof Reds and Fallow at bush ranges with the 150gr interloc and the 130gr barnes ttsx and would recomend either however the barnes really need to be going fast to work their best 3100+, I have had issues with lack of penetration with 150sst on more than one occasion.
Thanks guys thats great.
Akaroa, great info , much appreciated.

Guy selling 200 cor lokts on trade me at the moment.
Privi Partisan 150 gr SP by far the best, softest jube I have ever used...
150 SSTs work really well at sane speeds. I found Speer 130 hollow points great in the 300 but a bit explosive in the 308.
Think the fact that is coming out is shit loads work well. Shot placement is the key and the choice of projectile isnt a huge factor like some think. Better of using a round your rifle likes and hit the animal in the right area and it do the job . A good old SP will do everything you want for the bush, no need to spend extra on fancy projectiles with fancy names.
Thanks guys. Yep i went with plain Jane 130g sp Hornady Interloks. As an option later ill try 150/165 soft points, may try the woodlieghs .
brand new to reloading and have just bought some sierra 165gr HPBTs to go with some 2208 powder. Running it out of a 16" barrel length tikka and not really looking to shoot any further than 300m.
At the moment i shoot factory Winchester deer season 150s and have on a few occasions got 3 shots touching but shoots under 1 MOA as long as i do my bit.
Anyone else use the same combo i have just bought?
